Aurora 2k or 5k?

I know not too many people are running these chargers, but those who have what seems to be the results? I am going to be running a 05' TST with twins 90% of the time. I will stack the MP-8 on it for truck pulling. Is this enough fuel to run the 5K? I know it might be laggy, but how bad is it? I am worried the 2K is just too small and might give up some power due to its size. Also anyone have any numbers with these similuar setups? Does the ATS kits bolt right on like they claim? I really don't want to change downpipes.

Thanks
Jeff

the 5000 is the better choice for pulling. I would look at the sledpuller from htt or the sps series from Industrial Injection. I love my sledpuller. you are correct the 2000 is to small for what you describe.

I heard from my diesel guy that the 5k could have surging problems if you were just using boxes to get power. Injectors+TST+mp8+cam+studs=ok. If you set the wastegate low without headstuds I think the surging is at its worst. If you fuel them and run them hard they are pretty bombproof up to 70psi. The 2k is similar to a HTB2 or Super B in performance. If you aren't going to tow anything heavy and don't see twins (compounds) in your future get a sledpuller or phatshaft. ks

There is no wastegate on my 5000....

You could be happy with both...just depends on what you want. The 5000 is a "competiton" single, and the 2000 is a great everyday very very streetable turbo. The 5000 can do anything...you just have to learn to drive around surge and low boost/higher temp situations. I have no problem doing so...but I may tow faster than most! LOL

The 2000 will spool lightning quick...but does not support more than 450...except for maybe real short bursts.

Just decide what is your priority is...

Fit up is excellent. I would lean towards the 5000 for you...unless you live or drive at high elevation most of the time. You will want the MP-8 on all the time. If you do get that turbo, PM me and I will help you dial in the fuel just right to hit peak performance.

We have installed and ran several A2K setups with great results. This little turbo cleans up every bit of smoke from the TST box very quickly. The A5K is streetable, but will be a little laggy with the fuel you described. As far as the surging comment goes, that is with any large single. I would suggest going with the 2K for your application unless you plan on going bigger (fuel) in the future.

The 6 speeds do not surge like the autos do.

if your going to put some serious fuel to it, I would run the Aurora 5K, but the Aurora 2K will also move some serious air if needed.

hope this helps

As cquestad stated above the Aurora 5k is not for the light hearted or guy that just wants to have an around town hot rod.
The Aurora 5k is a seriously LARGE single turbo that will have lag issues, surge issues, barking issues etc. with a lightly modified truck.
My definition of lightly is a truck that is 525rwhp or less.

My 5K will even surge sometimes while running in 6th gear with my boxes turned off under WOT conditions.
I do have the cam, injectors, etc.

Now with everything turned up the truck is downright scary!!

The ATS will bolt right up to the downpipe but it is not the easiest thing to install since it is so big.

You might want to consider something like a Super 66 and then if you outgrow that then move up to the ATS5k.

With all that said I am really impressed with the 5K unit and think its great for sledpulling!!

How does the spooling compare for the SP & SPS 66 compared to the 5000? We're thinkin of upgrading, and would hate to get something too small, thats why I'm leaning away from the A2000. I know we will upgrade the truck further in the future (fuel system, injectors, water/meth, etc.) so I want something the truck can grow into.
