ATS Transmission holding power?
ATS Transmission holding power?
Curious if anyone with ATS transmission knowledge knows how much these transmissions can handle?
The dealer was vague. And ATS really didn't give me an answer. Perhaps I should have went with another transmission company. I was told it could handle anything I put through it (sales talk).
Don't get the wrong idea -- my ATS transmission works great! I just want to know how far I can push it.
I have the ATS with co-pilot, flex plate, and billet input shaft. Stage 4 transmission I think they call it.

ATS - Personal experience... Cannot even hold 500hp for very long.
I am running suncoast, and absolutely love it. They have awesome trannys and I would use them again if I had to do it over again.
I also heard that Dave @ Ultimate Transmissions out of Idaho builds a very bullet proof tranny.

nothing too positive about ATS so far. . . Anyone else? I hope it can handle more than 500 HP. My truck has more than that -- soon it will have more. I told them what upgrades my truck has and they said not to worry.
Any more comments about the ATS transmission?

There must be other's using an ATS transmission. Any comments about it?
Crashcade - did you have an ATS trans that went bad? What stage transmission was it? How much power did the truck produce?

i was steered away from ats by a friend who owns PDI they wont install them in anyones truck they recomend gorend sun coast and love hts. however they do run the ats converters in their sled puller they say its the only converter to hold up to over a year of pulls
I have an Ats tranny. At first I did the stage 4 like yours and I snapped the input shaft. Then when it was all tore apart I just went ***** to the wall and did everything else to it. That was almost a year ago and I've put 40k on it at 662hp.

I had about 5 or 6 of them. It was a stage 4 with a co-pilot. Billet input and billet flexplate. My truck being a daily driver at about 500hp at the time. I have since stepped up the power by a couple hundred and installed a Suncoast. I couldn't be happier.
I hear the warranty is excellent on the ats ?
just a matter of longevity ?
are you good at dropping and installing the transmission if the ats turns out that it does not last long ?

Yes it was An ATS that failed. But due to some drag racing with some high boosted launches.... I can see how it happened. They did replace it though and made things right with me. I do tow but not as often as I used to. Now I hook up to a 12k trailer once a month. Not too often.

I am running "ATS Stage V Transmissions" in both my 1996 Dodge CTD 12 valve and my 2006 Dodge CTD CR. Also, I ran one of their transmissions in my now sold 2002 Dodge CTD 24 valve. I have been one of their customers almost since they first released their ATS Triple-Lok around 2001.
You can look at my signature to see where I am at on H.P., my 1996 dyno'ed at "Fall Brawl" at 891 H.P./1500+ TQ. The 96' runs the quarter mile in 11.52@118 MPH. My 2006 Dodge CTD CR has 580 RWHP and runs consistent 13.1-13.2's @105 MPH. I also tow heavy with my 2006.
As I said above, I drag race my 1996 Dodge CTD 12 valve regularly and last year made many of the DHRA events. The ATS Transmission that is in the 1996 has been in that truck for almost three years now and the one in the 2006 for almost two years. They have held up very good and anyone here that knows me will tell you how hard I run and race my trucks! Also, IMHO, they are a great company and their transmissions and tranny components are very well built.
FWIW, my good friends, Jimmy and Dale Smith run a 2001 Dodge CTD, 4X4, DHRA Drag Truck which has a fully built Scheid Diesel Race Engine in it and they are running a full ATS Transmission in their truck with the "ATS Five-Star" Converter. This truck holds the U.S. record for a 4WD diesel pickup in the 1/4 mile having run at 9.75@139 MPH. Also, the Diesel Rail Dragster owned by Scott and Dustin Bentz in Denver, Colorado also runs a full ATS Transmission in that vehicle.
I know everyone here has their own opinions and experiences, but I don't think you can go wrong with an ATS Transmission. Also, I wanted you to know I am running the ATS Billet Flexplate, all Billet Shafts and all heavy internals in my ATS transmissions.
