anyone tried the MILEAGE MAX module?
Maybe a dumb question but, when the new program comes out for the mmm & I load it, what if I decide I liked the old program better? Can I just go back online & put the old back in? Also on my stock 06 should I put the boost fooling program in? What would be the advantage or disadvantage of boost fooling on a stock truck? thanks
As for BF I like the ability to go above the 32psi mark when needed for passing even though the MM tune is installed.

I'm currently running the MM tune with BF in my 06 mega.
On tailgate up or down....
My '99 F350 Crew had a Knapheide Utility Body with a Wire mesh headache rack and a Tommy lift at the tail.
Tailgate down on THAT truck was worth at least .5 MPG
This '03 seems to do pretty darn good considering it has side boxes that stick out a couple inches beyond the cross bed, a headache rack and 4 ton bulk.
I still say if Quad makes a tune for my kind of driving it wiould be killer!

The air flows over the cab and hits the tailgate, creating a higher pressure zone of air inside the bed. This high pressure zone facilitates smooth flow of air over it, but the air still circulates within the bed. So I'm not sure your cup test will be a reliable indicator of how efficiently the high pressure zone is working.
A tonneau cover eliminates the tailgate, thus preventing the high pressure zone from forming. Now, a low pressure zone is created directly behind the rear window. This low pressure zone creates drag because it applies force against the window of the truck opposite to the direction of travel.
It basically sucks the truck backwards a little.
I agree that the effects are generally negligible, but things like tailgate and tire pressure and speed and wind resistance and throttle position are cumulative and could add up to a big problem.

I believe this was one of the tests in either a water tank or wind tunnel (possibly both).
And what you're saying makes sense considering in only certain spots in my bed do things actually sit and NOT move like leaves and such.
And while I did not see the follow up show I was just going by what I heard and also in my trucks in the past I had no gain of MPG's with a tonneau cover and they have been on my S10's, Tacoma, Ranger, 1500's. Now while none of them I had both a fiberglass and a leather one on (it was either or) and never noticed a gain I just liked them do to looks and to keep stuff in my bed dry or at the very least the snow out.
If I wasnt always pulling with my truck I would most likely have one on it as well, in fact im still considering one of those slide type or electronic ones to keep my 5th wheel snow free (have had some issue hooking with snow all over it).
As for my original post I was just showing what was said if you disagree thats fine until I myself have the proof with MY driving I will not be putting my tailgate down (when not towing) and have been considering a vented 5th wheel tailgate since that was the ONLY thing shown to increase mileage noticably, it may not work for me and something may have worked for you and thats fine.
Hey guys, they are working on them as fast as they can. I talk to Quad from time to time on the phone and I am always amazed at the stuff he has going on at one time.
Believe me when I tell you that he is trying VERY hard to make everybody happy

Well, I am in the middle of my long trip home(Iowa to Wisconsin)for the holidays, and I have the MMM with boost fooling added. I have noticed a gain, but don't have hard #'s to post. I am also running with 16 or so ounces of TCW-3 oil in every tank. I have not noticed a difference around town, but with the colder weather my idle times have increased. I will post the #'s soon.
I have the X2 "XZT" and changed over from the MM tune to the 12 07 2007 date code factory tune with boost fooling. I got on it twice at different times and could only max at 31-33psi boost at WOT. I did this because I wanted to see if the boost fooling feature was an issue for my like others. Seems that it is. Still like the acceleration just don't get the boost fooling aspect yet. Also I tried the file rename thing on download. If you leave the new file "renamed" when you run the file you get exception errors in XP. Had to rename my original Quad file with the October date code and name the new file back to the same name as the website has it. It worked then.
