Anyone Happy with their HTT 64/65/13SS
This turbo started out as a 62/65/13ss and I really liked it. Spool was a little slower than stock, but then I added the TST and it was just fine, better than stock IMO. It towed really great too. I was a little dissapointed in the EGTs, they were still rather toasty, but I think most of that was the Diablo Predator/TST stacked. But for the monwy it cost I had expecting more cooling.
As a 64/65/13ss the smoke just never clears up 100%. At night there is always a haze. With my really tight auto, driving around town, it's easy to bog down 1500-1600 RPM and watch out for the smoke. Once I get 10-15 PSI it clears up some but not 100%.
I'm running TNT/R level 3, 2 timing, 2 RP, 1 TQ (to control smoke), I'm not using TST, only for turbo cool down. My EGT's never get north of 1200. This 64 is way cooler than my 62.
On Smarty Level 5 or 7 or even on level 3 with TQ on 2-3 or RP on 3, I can get better top end but way more smoke down low. Too much smoke down low and I just can leave these programs in.
Cruising 70 MPH, I see 2-3 PSI boost. Above 2500 RPM, then turbo spools ok, above 2000 RPM, it lags some, below 2000 RPM takes a light foot. With a stick I think this turbo would be fine. For me I need to sell it or down size back to a 62 untill I can get a S400 to go with it.

steve05ram, I have the beta 4.4 whichon the dyno all levels were pretty close to the same. 1-9 were all around 170hp. I usually run level 5, but I tried levels 3,5,and 7 and it was the same. I thought about downloading the revo and revo TNT after talking to HTT a couple of times, but I just love the 4.4 for power and mileage and didn't want to chance not being able to load the 4.4 after using one of the revo's. I stuck with 4.4 and decided to get rid of the turbo instead. Plus it would bark like crazy when pulling and would even bark when half throttle and the tranny locked up. I am glad alot of people liked it, but for my setup it didn't work.
If I had it to do over I would have adjusted the wastegate before installing on the truck to get more boost to try and keep things cooler on the top end, but once on the truck unless you have midget hands and some special tools you can't adjust the wastegate.
I really just figured the 64/65/13ss at 40 psi would cool better than the stocker at 45psi, but in my situation it didn't.

Did you ever try the 4.11 wild tq management??? On my truck smoke is dramatically increased, power is close to the 4.4 but less touchy. I think it would've helped out alot.
I don't know what your expecting??? You're gonna get smoke, some smoke regardless man, thats what comes with modifying, injectors, turbo, programming. Like I said you have to make sacrifices. If you don't want smoke you might as well go back to stock, get my drift? Either that or learn better driving habits. With your mods its gonna be hard not to smoke.
Turbo also barks bad on some tunes when TC locks up.
I don't have big sticks, baby sticks IMO, if I had Flux 2s or 3.3s then it would be a different story. My trailer is black after detuning this truck, towing never exceeding 1100 EGTs and keeping RPM above 2000 and mostly above 2500.
I understand....its just really surprising that with the mods you do have that you would have spoolup issues. The haze i can understand. I guess its just best to go back to a 62 wheel like been said.
Did you have any turbo bark problems on lock up when it was a 62? I know what you mean when you say it feels very slow. When I had mine on I tried to pass someone on a slight decline. I was going 56 mph on a two lane highway and went about 1/3 to 1/2 throttle and the truck wouldn't spool at all wouldn't hardly move and blacked out the sun with smoke. Once I hit 65 mph which took several seconds it finally lit and really started to move, but the smoke never cleared.
That situation and my towing experience made me decide to sell it. When I had problems passing people and had that much smoke when the temps were in the low 70's in spring time I knew it would be uncontrollable in the summer months at 90+. I know what you are feeling, I am just glad to see you can keep your egt's in check with the 6 speed, my auto I would be only running 1700 rpm and no way the egt's would stay in check.

Only times I could bark the 62 was with Diablo on RKL Puff and only if I let off to fast running 50 PSI boost. I learned not to do that, plus stacked with TST, fuel wouldn't let off as fast and bark when backing off was almost gone.
With the 64, it's easy to bark. I'll be talking to HTT and sending it back again.

The built trannys' tight converters make a big difference - I'd have an easier time driving the '05 G56 around an A5K than it is to drive the '05 DTT around the 62/65/13SS secondary... darn '05 tow/haul mode (might as well park it without a lockout switch).
Auto trucks drive so much better with "manual" shifting to keep RPMs up.

on stock programming with my cam and 6spd 9500 lb truck my 62/65-12 spools up almost as well as the stock turbo did with stock fueling. Smarty jr on sw#1 boost starts coming on hard at 1400 rpm, one that happens smoke is gone. O"n sw#3 it clears up all smoke and spools almost instant
I cannot get my egt's over 1250....even towing 27,000lbs on sw#3. The cam and turbo together made a HUGE difference and created some serious airflow.

My cam and turbo upgrade to 64 and pulse manifold and F1.6s all went in at the same time. I had thought these other upgrades would help compensate for going from 62 to 64. But it sure didn't with my setup.

I have a stick, so I know it is different, but I absolutely love my 64/65/13ss. It spools incredible and cools awesome. I tow my 5k bassboat all the time on at least revo level 7 or tnt on 3 and never see egts above 1200 or 1300. And that temp is wide open acceleration up ramps and etc on the interstate or going up long grades in 6th gear with it lugging a little. I also live in higher elevations and tow in mountains a lot. With my stocker on there and less smarty programming I could peg 1500 in seconds, so I know this turbo cools so much better. It really makes me wonder if something else is going on. I don't have sticks, so that might make a big difference. When on the dyno, I don't even get to 1300 hrs degrees in a sixth gear pull making over 500hp with tnt/tst stack. With a manual, if I don't want to smoke any such as if 5.0 if behind me, I just pull out with a little less throttle until I start to make some boost then I can give it about all she wants without a smoke show. When I tow, I often set torque management to stock, just to reduce that intial smoke. Tac
