anyone else problems with south bend clutch?
i had mine for about a year(12000miles)no hauling. i was getting new tires today and was going to smoke my old tires. well it didn't work. the clutch was slipping and the tires weren't. now i can't get the truck to shift anymore. the clutch was rated 550 hp. i barely make 400hp. i am a little mad.

I don't know what their warranty is but there are a number of things that could have been done wrong during the installation. Some things that could cause the clutch to slip may not show up right away. It could be bolts backing out, fluid on the clutch, who knows. I'd wait to see what the mechanic says before I'd blame the clutch. I might also be standing there when they drop the tranny, just to keep everybody honest.

the shop i use are honest people. i have the truck towed 60 miles just to have the shop work on it. thats the only diesel shop i trust. i could have towed 4 miles to the next shop but i rather pay 230$ for towing. well we will see what happens.... but with my luck i am gonna get a big bill again... you live and learn. bad thing only about that is at one point ya die and forget all about it lol.
I bet you tried to do a little power braking a slipped the clutch and burnt the plates a little bit. And now the clutch will not completely disengage not letting you to beable to shift, but most will come out of it with a little driving. Our pulling clutch would do this when it was new but now works like a champ. But it is a dual disk with 3850# plate. But talk to Peter he'll set you up right!

weird,i have a 3850 in mine and i beat the$$$$ out of it 3rd gear launches,i tow heavy lots as well it is a grabby clutch not great to try back up a trailer with but it never gives up!forget the emails call peter at s bend he will make it right
My guess is that you have a ferramic clutch since you said it was rated at 550. I have had bad luck with ferramic lining holding up. The last ferramic clutch I blew out had pieces of the clutch welded to the flywheel, it was pretty ugly. Another one I welded the disc to the flywheel, not a good time either.
If you are going to beat it, go full ceramic. I have fried mine countless times and after you let it cool its good to go again. One time I did a 3rd gear launch at the track and it slipped out of the hole. I was mad so I smashed it the whole 1/4 with it slipping. Let it cool and it was good again.

You can also take a bone stock truck with a clutch that is rated at 550hp and burn it out sometimes it's how you driver error, not saying it's your fault but their are many things to consider here. Peter is great to deal with and stand behind his products!!!
Sounds like you heated it up too much and the clutch disk is now stuck to the pressure plate and flywheel or the clutch disk may have came apart. Ouch!!!! Only did that once a long time ago.
To correct the issue. Push in the clutch while the tranny is in a high gear, roll over the starter and hope it will break free,,LOL
