The stock turbo and all aftermarket singles have a 4" outlet. The MBRP has a 5" downpipe that goes into a 4" flange.

A TRUE 5" exhaust will require a turbo with a huge exhaust housing, and it will be nothing you can light by itself.

I believe 04.5s have a 4.5" downpipe that will bolt right up out the 04 down pipe.

Since you have an early 04 you will need an HX-40 downpipe for the new turbo, the turbo back kits you buy will be for the stock turbo flange. I would buy a 5" cat-back exhaust system, a short peice of 5" pipe and a 5" hx-40 downpipe, that will save you some money.

Almost 900 hp has been don with 4". It doesn't make any performance changes compared to straight 4" until 650 rwhp. Even then it is only a couple of HP.

As mentioned above, get the 04.5 elbow.

The 5" systems for the 04.5 are just 4" right off the elbow and quickly neck up to 5". That is as close as you are going to get.

I have the 04.5 elbow sitting in the garage waiting for an 04.5 exhaust. You need the clamp too!

Even if you use a 4" system its nice to have 4" elbow instead of 3.5"

Not the one thats on my truck, its a 5" down pipe.

As mentioned the 5" isnt worth it as far as hp goes. I did mine for the tone and would do it agian, it does sound much better imo.

you don't need 5" for what you are doing. My reg cab has 4" downpipe. You have a lot to do before you need to worry about needing larger than 4" downpipe. Main thing is not to get excited. We need to see what turbo is going on, then get the 4" elbow if needed and get 04.5 exhaust then. If you buy a 5" exhaust for an 03-04 then you will be worse because of the small elbow.
