Question Air intake manifold question

I am looking for advice on which intake manifold to buy. I am trying to decide between the arch flow and cfm +. I almost bought a high ram from banks, but at the local diesel shop (keystone Diesel in PA ) they said the banks actually lowers hp and torque when they dynoed some trucks with it on. Because of the bulge and taper down effect of the high ram. I read some good results with the arch flow, and that the cfm+ is made of a composite metal which scares me. I haven't seen to much feedback on the cfm+ either. If anybody thinks I'm off base on banks ram speak up.

I want to put some more miles on my truck before I get the Smarty program. But I still want to play. Anybodys input would be appreciated.

I don't think there's an intake manifold that will increase hp over stock. Mostly the major benefits are the ports on them for boost gauges, water/meth, or nitrous. The only two I've seen that look good to me are the Arc-Flow (2 ports) and the Swanker (4 ports). The CFM+ is supposed to prevent heat soak but you can't drill and tap it. If you don't want to add anything like I mentioned above I would stay with the stocker.

Doesn't anybody have anything positive to say about the aftermarket intake manifolds? Are they that useless? Talked to some people today, they said you may only notice a difference on slightly modded trucks.

I ran twins at 70+psi boost at the track...plus running water/meth.....on the stock intake manifold....get a decent clutch... before you start replacing the silly stuff. I hope you entered the contest to win one...you'll need it. If you really want to get better intake performance remove the grid heaters in the summer and put in a spacer. ks

I have a week now on the CFM + and I would give it a thumbs up !!! Idles way better and throttle response is improved ,especially after warm up . There is a port you can drill but it is plastic remember ,if I use it I will epoxy a fitting in . Mileage is reading 2+ higher we shall see over a few tanks . Nice piece and it comes with studs and all gaskets . Also got an ATS exhaust manifold just trying to find time to put it on !!!
There is a bit of casting flah left inside nothing a piece of sandpaper and 10 minutes couldn't handle .

It`s a complete waste of money. Save the cash and buy a Cool Hose @ www.dieselpowerproducts.com and an Amsoil NanoFiber Drop-In air filter.
You`ll be miles ahead of some crappy gimmick that only lets air into your wallet.

I got an ats arc flow on the way from xtreme diesel. According to many of you I'm wasting money, but if I don't like I'll sell it to recoop some $. I thought about the cfm + but the composite material kept me from buying it, plus the ats has ports for water/meth. I'll post back once I get on and drive some.

newer composite materials shouldn't be thought of as cheap. It's not your basic run of the mill plastic. He may have thought it it was cheap but, it is the same material used in the space program. It's not quite as strong as carbon fiber but, is very close.

The big benefit from using a CFM is the fact it doesn't retain heat and it's flow rate can't be beat. If comparing it to a ATS then yes, it might seem cheap because of the ATS being made of metal.

I've had both on my truck and can say, there's NO significant benefit to having either. As was mentioned... one reason to not use a CFM is that it lacks any ports for injection.

Farmer, when you get the intake let me know. Since no one really talked about the banks(know its to late) but I like the banks. But like you said maybe a benifit cause of the mods who knows? I like to think it's if anything it's just a piece of mind?

Like Mixer Man, I too have a CFM. In the 2 months since install my mileage is over 19 (up from just under 17) this is verified the old fashioned way, miles vs gas used. EGT are down and turbo cooldown time is less than half of what it used to be. (I idle till egt is less than 375). I did use the post for a boost gauge port but did not epoxy it. After doing some math, I figure this piece will pay for itself in gas in about 6 months. I have never had a dyno so I cant say for sure if it added power but all in all I think it is a good piece.

I have the High Ram on mine, stock its nothing really, but with my mods i think its helps out pretty good. But it does look really cool when you open the hood, thats my biggest compliment i get. But overall not worth the money.
