air intake??

hey guys.

I have an 04 and I'm looking to get an intake. As of right now I haven't made any mods to my truck yet. I hope to get an exhaust, programmer, and a lift and tires sometime in the future. I'm just trying to get some opinions about them. there are just so many different brands to choose from.

-one brand better than another?
-does performance and fuel mileage increase?
-is it worth the extra money?

thanks for your input.
Steve

there a bunch of nice intakes ive seen here very recent. AEM, icebox and a AFE look really nice. you can build your own for alot cheaper if you are like to build stuff. I have about 100 in a custom intake I built with an afe stage 2 filter that is huge.

Another way you could go is just to modify your stock air box and use an aftermarket drop-in filter like Amsoil or AFE.
This is what I added to my truck and saw an ~ 50* drop in EGTs with my smarty on any setting.

I personally like the *****'s Whistler (I built the Stage I). It moves a lot of air, is easy to build, and saves a ton of $$$ over the purchased ones. I have also seen in a recent thread how someone used a $4 dryer vent duct with the stock airbox.

built one like the one 6shker shown, with parts from the hardware store probably $12 or so, and had the intake replace the passengers fog light.

sort of ram air i guess

I second this setup. I used this with an Amsoil drop in filter and an AFE torque tube. TRUE cold air setup, better than any under hood setup!!! I got mine from HERE

I agree with the above.....drop in filter replacement (Dry or oiled) and the psm buick cold air intake or homeade version (i spent the $80 to buy the kit)...this type of solution flows lots of air, is inexpensive, offers your choice of filter for protection, doesnt ingest hot engine air, no pulling down of the filter minder, cooler egt's,...i've never tried the all in one package solution from afe, icebox,....as i havnet had the need...current setup works excellent.

Ditto here
PSM style except i used a 8" jointer hood, 4' outlet and 4" dust collection hose from any major woodworking supplier. Wire reinforced.
AMSoil drop in.
Got bout $ 20 in the whole deal, less the filter.
I got fogs so I cut it just short of the inner fender. Plenty of air.
Even went thru a car wash and forgot about the undercarriage spray, not a drop in the filter box.
Intake tube is clean, clean.

I've had the AFE stg 2 on my truck for a few yrs now, and have had no complaints about it. It is a well designed intake, and a new one has been designed also.

To save money and still get a full intake I would do a ****** whistler setup. To save even more money I would do any of the above. But IMHO I think the AFE or ****** and similar will benefit better, look better, and keep you from hacking up your stock box.

Do a search for intake fan. I've removed the pictures and dyno results. If you want more info send me a PM. I've got a AFE stage 2 setting in my garage. I like my intake fan better.
