Air Box Mods (Question)

I've done some reading on here about folks modifying their stock air boxes to get more air by either drilling holes in the bottom of the box or by putting a 4" or so elbow on the bottom. I've also seen lots of talk about water getting into these holes or into the elbow.

I haven't looked too closely at this yet, but how can water get in this area unless you have your hood up and you're spraying water in there?

This minor mod and a Pro Guard AFE replacement filter seems like an easy way to get more air to the engine.

i have the PG7 drop in. i plan to open the air box as well. I probably will do the PVC elbo on the underside of the box. There are some other posts with instructions on how to do this. From what i`ve read, if you put some sort of mesh over the end of whatever tube you use, it will help keep the water out. Someone suggested using a pice of womans stockings, and others have said use a piece of screen.

I`m leaning towards the 4 inch drainpipe, with a screen mesh cover on it.

Just get creative, you will come up with something.

I'm thinking of fabricating my own concrete airbox with vent holes.

Some have concerns that water will be ingested when driving in heavy rains. I drove 200 miles in blinding rain and when I got home I opened the airbox to see if it was wet. It was not.

Check my gallery, I turned the elbow upside down, now if I want to "close" it I can put a cap on it inside the air box. It is too tight to do anything underneath.

Thanks for the info spots!

I was wondering about that, but it doesn't rain much here in northern Nevada.

You would definately isolate the filter from any underhood heat, water, front end collision.
