aftermarket exhaust manifolds any good???

Hey guys,

I pulled the turbo on my 05 (had to pull the manifold to get at rear bolts properly).

Its all out of my truck now, getting a garret stage 2 turbo and bigger intercooler.

I was wondering if the aftermarket exhaust manifolds (which one???) would be of any benefit.

What are your guys's thoughts on it?

Hopefully all of the aftermarket manifolds are made to flow better but since I don't have one I can't say for sure. For the prices they charge....they had better be much improved over the stocker!!!! Are you going with a 2nd gen 3-piece or the 3rd gen 2-piece? I hear that if you convert to the 2nd gen manifold the flow is more evenly improved....and possibly even changes the exhaust tone.....hopefully someone in the know will let us know if this true or not.

I have been reading that it helps with turbo spool. But i'm wondering how much does it really help.

Anyone that runs one?

I already ordered the turbo, so I would have to go with a 3rd gen 2 pc one

Not necessarily....it should bolt up to any T-3 manifold be it a 2-pc 3rd gen or vice versa!!

If you go with the 3-piece you will have to also go with the 2nd gen downpipe....about $185 or so...not too terribly bad.

Not bad, but then I have to mod the cold air intake.

I am thinking a good upgrade here would be the ATS manifold, ATS intake arc, ATS intercooler, and the stage 2 garret turbo.

Stock turbo went on the truck, too high of EGT (has stock air box on).

All the above mentioned parts and the AFE Stage II intake I have, should let the turbo spool quicker then stock (or similar), and flow a bit more air and keep EGTs a bit down with 37s.

That's all I want for my truck

Most of the aftermarket products are worth the purchase....to an extent. I have heard though that ATS products are not worth what they are charging for them....but like I said before, I have no proof of this!!!

Everyone has their own opinion and if ATS is what you have in mind then by all means purchase their parts. If they were obviously no good they wouldn't still be in business....just read the parts lists from this years Diesel Power Challenge.....LOTS of ATS parts were used.

Just search your options and choose whats right for you and your wallet.

I have read about the ATS exhaust manifold.

Only reason I was considering getting the rest is to have stuff all shipped at once.

If there are better parts I'd be down for that

It definitely changes the exhaust tone!!! I just went back to the 3rd gen manifold and it sucks sound wise

5 inch straigh pipe I had on my dually, much better sound overall

I installed a ATS at the same time as my Garrett Stage 2. I don't know what it does for spool, etc as I never ran it with the stock turbo.. But I do know that after carefully looking at the OEM manifold I wished I had done it sooner.
