Wanting to change up the sound of my 07 5.9L. Seems that Aero Turbine (4040L) or Donaldson are good choices. Any reason for one over the other? Just looking for a "throaty" sound but not obnoxious. I still have the cat so I hope it can still sound decent.

 

Aero Turbine is pretty loud. I ended up welding a Nelson resonator upstream from my Areo Turbine. Now it has a good throaty sound but still too loud to let idle in the early mornings without pissing off the neighbors.

 

Running a 5050XL, can not comment on the Donaldson, never ran one, it does seem to be a popular choice though on this board. As for the Aero, I have no complaints, it does have a nice throaty sound, but is is also 5 inches in diameter...

 

I had an Aero 4040L, drone drove me nuts while towing. If you leave the cat in might be a different story. Changed the Aero out for a Donaldson 51", much happier.
