adjusting boost on HTT/ss?

Hello. So I have been thinking my boost is hitting 45lbs. Well it does hit 45lbs, but after like a second or second & a half, while still WOT, it drops to like 38. I just had the stock head bolts checked for torque measurements when the c am was installed. I am waiting until I can pop for new head studs. How do I adjust for more boost? Should I? Will I notice a nice bump in power?

Thanx.

put an adjustable boost elbow on there... I highly recomend installing a drive pressure gauge. you can increase boost and watch your EGT's and drive pressure... if you're not getting any EGT reduction with more boost, I would leave it at the lower boost level, but I would continue to increase boost untill EGT's level off or drive pressure reaches 1:1, whichever comes first

Hmm, thanx Gary. I don't really want to install a DP gauge. I have the 71 wheel, so I figure that with my DP's always stay in check (especially w/sotck injectors).

That is interesting how I could use a DP to gauge the best boost for my truck, though. I guess I could remove my EGT tap & install a boost gauge (w/some copper line), just for finding the perfect boost. Then losing the DP gauge and reinstalling the EGT probe.

Good info, thanx buddy.

no worries. you'll probably be fine with the 71mm turbine, especially if you're only turning 3500rpm or less.

even if you're a little past 1:1, it's certainly not going to hurt anything.

I would just watch the EGT's and increase boost as long as it helps with EGT's. When your EGT reduction levels out, then pull the pyro and check your drive pressure. You can just plumb your boost gauge, but if you can borrow another gauge, it's nice to be able to watch both boost and drive at the same time.

FWIW, the crossover point on my sps62 was about 48psi... this was at 535rwhp. at 400rhp and only 3000rpm, I never reached crossover. at 55psi of boost, drive was only 50psi. Heat (power) and RPM can really send that drive pressure up!

every truck/combo is a little different, so you can go off of others' numbers, but with $20 in burnt fuel, you can dial your setup in just the way you want it

Are boost elbows used on 06's? I was searching around and I read that they are only for 03 & 04's, not 04.5's & up.

Thanx.

Do U have stock boots or after markets. I know on my stock 05 I replaced my intercooler & boots from an early 04 truck & I noticed that the boots were 1/2 a size thicker than my stock un's. After the new un's were install'd & tested I noticed my boost were higher @ a constant flow not peaky then dropping . 2 think of it could B the change from plastic 2 metal!!
