6 in lift and 37 in tires

having never put a lift kit and big tires on a truck i am wondering how much steering wheel shimmy is normal. mine drives fine for a while and then the front end starts to shake for no apparent reason. i cant seem to find anyone locally that can be of any help, and superlift doesnt seem to have any suggestions.

Sounds like death wobble. Have you gotten an alignment?

i've had alignment checked several times but nobody really knows how to align the truck with the lift kit on. i have played with the caster trying to come up with a setting that would get rid of the wobble but nothing seems to work.

Trying to blend caster and pinion angle can be a PITA on a lifted truck. Personally, I would never lift more than a 4" without going to a long arm kit.

Try finding a place that aligns big trucks.
Like UPS or FedEx trucks.

Mine wouldn't even fit on the machine at Les Schwab when I got my tires.
The place that did my lift sends it out to a big rig shop to have it aligned.

the superlift kit came with longer upper and lower arms, although they dont seem to be long enough. right now i have the pinion angle too far down; trying to move the axle forward enough to get rid of tire rub; and now have a vibration. I am thinking about ordering the adjustable links to solve that problem

No, I mean a TRUE long arm lift. One that moves the mounting point of the arms and has arms about twice as long as stock. I did a search (not really familiar with Ram lifts, more with Jeeps) and it looks like superlift will be selling a long arm upgrade for the 3rd gens soon.

RockKrawler makes one for the 2nd gen to give you an idea of the arm length. I ran their setup on my Jeep and besides the cheap joints that they use, it is well designed and allows for UNREAL flex.

Fabtech makes one for the second gens as well. They have decent picture of the arms too.

Long arms are the ONLY way to go over 4" (and even at 4"), IMO.

post a pic of your steering set up, showing the angles of your tie rod and drag link compared to the axle, your steering geometry may be way off now...

did your lift kit come with a pitman arm?

what steering stabilizer are you running?

Lets see some pics of this beast. Also how does the truck drive with the six speed and 37's? I am thinking about getting the same size tires one of these days.

Just my .02, I know of two trucks that drive terribly due to the procomp X terrain tires. 4 wheel parts even confirmed the tires need to be switched out to muds due to the directional tire rotation. I've had these tires in 35" and they rode bad new and I couldn't get them close on balance. I replaced w/ procomps mud tire and my problems went away.

What was your caster? Try a tad over 5 degrees. There are several people running the samne set up as you with no problems. Localnet could chime in???

it does have a drop pitman arm, dual superlift steering stabilizers, and a drop bracket for the track bar. The caster is set to 4 degrees right now and i am having problems with the pinion angle to the front drive shaft being to severe which is causing a vibration in the front that you can feel in the shifter for the transmission.
I am starting to wonder about the tires. it wasnt nearly as bad with the smaller nittos that i had before. Pro comp doesnt make another tire in the size that i am running so if i could get them to swap them for something else i would have to drop to 35s

4 degrees of caster is toooooo little. That is the tracking problem right there.
