Fronts are 6x9, but I found there are actually two sizes of 6x9. Infinity Kappas are the larger size and DO NOT fit. My Polk Audio's are the smaller 6x9's. They just fit. They sound just awesome. Since they have a built in crossover, they are a snap to install.

6.5s fit in the rear. The factory speakers are 5 1/4 but are mounted on a 6.5" bezel.

The OEM speakers are JUNK!

My 6x9 Polks in the front and 6.5's in the rear doors sound a lot better than my buddies $750.00 OEM 6 speaker Infinity system. The Infinity system is not nearly what you would expect from them. I think it's their budget line stuff (not even on par with their entry level Reference line) that is one level better than the 4 speaker OEM junk. Overall, I give the Dodge Infinity system a 3.5 out of 10. I give my 4 polks a 7, and for a lot less money. I think the Infinity system sounded a lot better in the previous model trucks, not to mention the price was 1/2.

Hey Monkeylips,

I am not by any means a stereo wizard so I beg your indulgence.

I understood that the infinity system has amps at all the speakers instead of in the head.

Are you saying that all I need to do is trade out the stockers for the Polk's and they will work? No amps on the speakers?

I have the infinity 6 disc changer system. I agree with everyone here that it is about the biggest waste of money going. The infinity in my 98 was 10 times better.

Thanks for any assistance.

Good question...I'm not positive, but I think those are the inline crossover networks. I really don't think those are an amp. If they are, I've never seen anything like it. I've found that locally owed stereo shops have the most knowelge when it comes to stuff like that. You could also call Crutchfield...they should be able to answer that question. Before you buy, shop around and figure out what you want, then check ebay for the speakers you want (usually 1/2 of everyone else), but then you have to install yourself. Personally, I like to do it myself as I do a better job than most shops.

You will have trouble with the Polk in the front doors. The magnets hit the back and will quit after a while. They are expensive to keep replacing.

That's odd...I intalled mine just about a year ago. They work great and do not touch anything. I did just the supplied black spacer between the door and speaker. It's about 5/8". Either you didn't use that or your or my doors are off enough to make a difference. Maybe you used different Polk's? Mine are the newer db series 6x9s. They make 3 or 4 different models.

Check Crutchfields web site. Plug in your truck to the vehical fitment guide. It will show you what fits...

I would like to add that some people install 6.5" components (seperate mid woofer/tweeter - Kappas are great!) in the front doors. Crutchfied, i think, has 6x9 adapter plates for that, or you can make your own. The only problem is you loose some bass, so you almost need a sub, which is where the Infinity powered sub comes into play (easy mount under a rear seat, if you don't have the fold flat flooring). You'd think I work for or own Infinity stock, but I don't. I just really like their Kappa line. I do, however, really like the Polk "db" line. They are simple to install, smooth, silky, with plenty of tight deep bass. For the money, you can't be them!

Check these out here:

http://www.polkaudio.com/car/category.php?name=dbseries

The db690's will fit in the front door, and the db650's will fit in the rear; no problem! If you don't believe me, check here:

http://www.crutchfield.com/S-uQJF0mo...*ctzfubflFYgzy

I paid $80 for my db690's and $50 for the db650's brand new on ebay. I have seen them going for more, but I'm sure you can come in under $200 for both pair. You will not find a better sounding set of speakers for that amount of money anywhere! Easy install too!

Good Luck!

Oh...make sure you verify shipping costs before you buy. A few sellers really inflate shipping to make up for their skimpy margins.

MonkeyLips... cooool.. any idea how many watts the factory box puts out?? think they will sound ok without more juice.... guess at some point will change out system but not anytime soon... toooooo many other fish to fry on the truck if you know what I mean..

* edited note **

is there any issues with putting the 6x9 into the 6 1/2 hole... I don't mean mounting issues - I mean issues with the bigger size and sound/vib.'s and not the correct hole for the sound trying to go out....

"will it effect the quality of the sound coming out" why not just put some 6 1/2 polks in???

The factory head unit puts out 66 watts per channel, which is pretty high for a OEM job. I'm guessing that is max wattage though, so it's problably 33 watts per channel RMS, which is about 10x more than OEM units of the past...not bad, but not great. If you looked at the specs on these speakers, you will see the efficiency rating of 93% (quite high), which means it doesn't take a lot of power to drive them.

Not sure what you mean about putting 6x9 in a 6.5" hole. The front door holes are 6x9, so the db690 speakers fit right just right. I used the supplied black spacers between the door and speaker, but applied some black silicone to both sides of that spacer before mounting just to ensure a positive seal.

The rear speakers holes are 6.5" so the db650 speakers also fit just right. For the rear doors, you could almost drill new holes, but I was able to just use the factory holes by turning the speakers a bit and gently working the screws into the holes at a very slight angle.

I have heard that these Polk db series speakers sound even better with more power. I have an MTX 480W amp that I'm going to hook up here soon. I haven't done it yet, because they already sound great to me...

I know what you mean by bigger fish to fry (intake, exhaust, Bully Dog Power Pup, Gauges, etc, etc). Get's spendy!
