5 star transmissions

This is the name of a shop here in Utah that has five stores. They say 7/75k warranty on any transmission they build, so I decided to give them a call about doing one for my truck to see what they would say . with current mods I believe I am somewhere around the 450 horse/900 torque. So I told them what I wanted and to my surprise they say they have been building them for local performance shop here in town and they would warranty any tranny they built. The price was about on par with all the other tranny builders about 5-6k. My question is should I try this or go with one of the bigger tranny shops? I did call the local shop here they are building trannies for and he said that he is having better luck with these than ATS. So what do you think?

Check out the wording of the warranty. If it's cut and dry, it's worth a shot. If it's sketchy and hard to understand be wary.

if its the same price as other big names go with the big names, they became big for a reason. At least you wouldnt be taking a risk.

Be sure to consider how long he has been in business and does he look financially able to stay in business at least as long as the warranty will last you? If he folds 14 months down the road, your warrant is pretty much worthless.

If he passes that criteria, then I would possibly consider him as I want a tranny guy that I can take the truck to in case of a problem.

They have been around a while and 5 local shops. But dont have to pull the tranny and send it off, so the turn around is a lot less time.

don't go five star...me and my BIL got the gouch from them they don't know half of what they tell you .I had to finally use this great site of DTR to diagnose my own truck trans because they could not figure it out and just told me to go to the dealer
it ended up being $150 bucks in sensors

have Moonlight Diesel build you a DTT they are in the Logan area...
I was going to go with Moonlight DTT but I sold my truck and got a G56 instead.

Don't do it
what good is a warranty if you have to use it ALL the time

Already have the hts valve body and have done plenty of talking with Dusty and his wife Great people. Just hate sending my tranny off for two weeks of down time.

I agree with you there. I planned on driving in person to have dusty do the install as well, but its hard to have planned time off where I work & the weather is bad. It worked out good for me, I had a local guy that I trusted do my install. I ended up saving money by not having the fuel cost of driving to michigan. I did want to meet the hts crew because they have been very nice to me. I actually just got my tranny put in last night, it shifts firm but not really hard. I am looking forward to making it run like a raped ape now.
