4wd to 2wd conversion
ok heres the deal i got a 2006 crew cab 4x4 dually.
i want to bag it, my last couple previous vehicles where bagged and body dropped. it fits me a little better all i haul with my truck is my race bikes so i dont need the 4x4 for going off road or anything.
what is diff on the 4wd opposed to a 2wd? can i just take the front axle out build my custom uppler lower control arms( gotta be built anyway) and then make the mounts for them?
just curious how hard this would be?
also i know to some this is idiotic. but i tried to trade it on a 2wd and my credit has gone south with dr bills. and i cant get refinanced.
so im in a rock and hard place.
any info guys.
and if it makes you feel good. bash as well haha

I don't know. For the amount of money it would cost to do the conversion why not spend the money on a Dynatrac manual locking hubs kit. About $1,800 for the kit. Install shorter front springs (if there's enough clearance) and remove the lift blocks on the rear.
Or maybe someone here would be willing to trade their 2wd for your 4wd?

first i will say something why did you buy it if you wanted to waste a good truck and lower it why not put 15 inch wheels on it to. ok said what i needed to. I 've looked at the front of these trucks i think it would cost you a lot more then its worth unless you can find a front frame clip and replace it and compensate the cost buy selling the 4x4 parts but you will probably kill the warranty on it by converting plus the resale because who would want to buy a converted truck

I personally think you should hold off. Don't hack up a perfectly good 4x4 and ruin the re-sale value. Just wait until you get your credit rebuilt enough to trade trucks. I'd think you could easily find a barely used 4x2 to trade down too and it probably wouldn't cost you anything. Around here we can't give a used 2wd away, so I'd think you could make a good trade if you found the right truck. Just wait till you get your credit fixed back up, doesn't take that long if you try hard.

I back the statement of not buying something you didn't need....
But seriously, while something may "fit you" better being a few inches higher up off the ground, wouldn't paid-off Doctor's bills and a paid-for truck FIT much better than how it looks?
If you're serious about getting out of debt, great! Take a whole-life approach, sit down with someone trained in such matters and get a handle on your finances. But remember that spending more money (modifying your present vechile - and voiding it's warranty and lowering resale value) does not fit into this plan. If you must sell the '06 and look for an older 2nd-gen that you can pay cash for. But remeber, it too can become a money trap.

I agree... Hold off and get the collections under dispute and build a little equity in the truck and then in about 6 months or a year... trade off to 2wd.
One thing to keep in mind when getting re-financed is that Med collection bills don't hit you as hard as CC or repossessions do. You might be able to trade out to a less expensive truck and it would look like a responsible thing to do in the eyes of a creditor. Even if it is a higher APR it may even lower the monthly.

Anyhow, sounds like everybody is giving him the same advice here. I am not bashing, just pointing out, all those mods he did all ready could have been money spent towards getting credit back in order?
