48RE question? Sorry if repeat topic-newbie
Alright, All BS aside!!! I have a 2006 2500 QC CTD w/ 3.73 gears, stock tires and the 48RE tranny. Engine is all stock and will most likely stay that way for the most part, maybe a chip for a slight Hp increase 40-50hp. The most I will tow is a 24Ft enclosed trailer with 5 sleds in it from MN to WY, total weight of loaded trailer will be around 7,000# or so. Do I need to beef up this tranny or will this new improved version be fine with what I intend to do if properly maintained. Let me know what you guys think.-Frog
To answer the question. My 48RE seems OK fine so far. 36K total miles, almost 8K miles towing 10,000#.
I see this a lot though and wonder
Can anyone back up a heavy trailer and keep their trans temp under 200? How about stop/go traffic towing in the summer?
I've hit 265 trying to get in a tight spot. I routinely see 220 creeping home in summer shore traffic. I have a deep pan and I've changed out the fluid in the pan twice so far.
