48RE front pump bushing/seal failure
What would cause the 48RE front pump bushing/seal to all of a sudden fail?
The 48RE has 40K on the rebuild and there was no pre-warning of any tranny issues. Was crusing along (not towing), lost OD, pulled over to see the ATF draining. The front pump bushing decided to spin out taking out the seal with it.
Tranny is fixed (rebuilt again)...but I am not seeing this to be a common problem, just trying to figure out what may have caused it.

Right, Not a common failure at mileage.
Perhaps a small piece of metal made into the bushing and started galling the bushing to converter. Stuff happens occasionally.

i would say imperfect bushing install, i used to rebuild engines and transmissions. and if the bushing/bearing is not installed perfectly straight,it will eventually "walk" out ............cam bearings and transmission bushings are the most common, altho rare it does happen!
