3rd injection event eliminator......

do the 04.5+ engine's have the same number of injection events as the early CR engine's? the 04.5's have a post injection right? If i am right i wonder if anybody out there has the technology to delete this post-injection event. It would cool these things off quite a bit wouldn't you think?

It is my understanding that the 03 and 04 trucks have 2 injection events. The 04.5 thru 06 trucks have 3 injection events. I have heard of some members trying to defeat the 3rd event but no one has succeeded yet. (that i am aware of)

04.5 thru 06

Don't forget the 04.5 thru the 06 are built for the additional heat. They have numerous oem upgrades to handle the additional heat.

I don't think it is the additional heat issue as much as the waste of fuel issue... Heck I would be happy to take out the the extra injection event on my 04 if it would give some better fuel numbers.

If they can't be eleminated then maybe they could be triggered so close together that they would act as one...

That 3rd event is to keep the cat hot. So it can burn off the hydrocarbons that is used to burn off the NOx.

without the third injection on the later engines to keep the Cat hot , then we would have soot accumulation at the Cat , and low power issues. thats why my kitty got lost.

soot accumulations = face plugging

That's why most people loose their favorite animal. If we could remove the first and third events it would be great. If anyone has time to spare, if someone with a tripledog that has done the upgrade can PM me, it would be appreciated.

Any new info on the removal of this post injection? I am asking about an off-road only vehicle with the 4.5 drive train.

Im pretty sure Marco did this before the Smarty was released. The net loss was like 100hp when the third injection event was disabled.

Marco already removed the 3rd shot. It hurt the HP a lot. It lost like 70 hp or so. You just have to find ways to control the heat. Inject some water in or add more air.

Losing the pilot shot (first shot) would be horrible. This is what makes the common rails good at spinning huge turbos.

So the third event actually DOES make power? I was always led to believe it did nothing but keep the cat hot. I would think that it would be possible to shift them around as such to use the main shot for all your power and get rid of the third one, or make it so close to the 2nd one that they were basically the same, but that is why I buy programmers rather than design them. Even if one were to just move the third one up so that it produced more power instead of waste heat would be a help.
