3rd Gen Cams

I just noticed over in TDR that Piers was working on different cam grinds resulting in real mileage improvements. I like the sound of this!

I talked to pdt yesterday and the cam resulted in 2-3 mpg more, and lower egts. 15-1800 installed.

Was that mpg figure for towing or not?

If you figure fuel cost at $1.95/gallon; and installation cost of $1500:

The break even point going from 10 to 13 mpg is about 33,000 miles.
The break even point going from 17 to 20 mpg is about 87,000 miles.

Might be worth it to a hotshotter who lives in the truck.

The breakeven point is even higher using the "worst case" numbers.

How much are the EGT's lowered?

I agree....they are back down the list behind a few other important things...unless they make my need for another turbo go away!

It might do more than you think because of the emmisions control on these motors they have alot of valve overlap which will cause a big rise in EGT's. I have heard of some tests being done which will take out some of the overlap making a very noticeable reduction in EGT's. Time will tell.
