37s and 4.56

Hey guys.

Since I lifted my truck I had stock tires, 37s, then 35s, then 37s again with my stock 3.73s.

I have decided that I will stick with 37" size.

I need to improve gearing. With weight and hills I would like to have a lot of gear to prevent bogging or kicking down all the time. I was thinking of going with 4.56s.

Has anyone installed 4.56s with 37s?
Where to get the best gears/kits?

Thanks,

Igor.

I Have 38 With 4.56's And They Seem To Work Great... I Don't Pull Or Haul Over Hills So I Don't Know About That.. But Your Rpm Will Go Up About 300 To 400 Though... At 70 I Run Around 2000 Rpm... The Pick Up Is Awesome Especially When Passing Other Vehicles... If You Do Pull Heavy I Would Probally Go To 4.88's But That Is Up To You... If You Are Looking For Really Strong And Reliable Gears Go With Either Yukon Or Genuine G2's... They Both Have A Good Reputation And Seem To Be Very Quite..... Randy's Ring And Pinion Is A Great Place To Call And Get Some Really Good Information From.... Hope This Helps Out.....

Just check the 4 wheeling mags, their full of good deals on gears. On the other hand I loved my 35's with my 3.73's alot more than stock. The other option is to get more power.

What would going from stock 3.73 to something like 4.10 do for a truck running larger (35") tires? Just curious. See people talking about gears all the time and I'm not real familiar with the advantages and disadvantages associated with the different gear ratios.

with 37" tires and 4.56 gears at 80mph you will be @ 2300 RPM. spinnin too fast to get any mileage out of it. go with 4.10, you will be @ 2100 RPM @ 82 mph. I have 39.5" tires, 3.73 gears and am at 1700 RPM @ 80.

I had 4.56 with 37's and got worse gas milage then with the 4.10 set up. I went back to the 4.10's and love it. I see 1800-1900 at 70 and tow very well. Plenty of gears for 37's. 4.56 will be too much. At least with 4.10 you can run 35's if you want to switch later on from 37's. If you go 4.56 you will always be stuck with 37's or bigger. Smart move is the 4.10's.

This Also Depends On What Your Main Purpose For The Vehicle Is ... Daily Driver And Tow/puller, Slight Strip Use... Or Mainly A Vehicle Built For The Strip With Little Highway Use... Also Depends On How Big Of Tire You Plan On Going With In The Future.... I Had 3.73's Also Had 4.11's, But The 4.56's Make It Alot Easier To Turn 37 To 40 Inch Tires Over, Faster Pick Up Plus Alot Less Strain On Motor And Tranny.... 3.73 With Big Tires Will Also Make Higher Egt's At Highway Speed Because Of The Lower Rpm And Lugging Of The Motor.. 4.56's With Big Tires Gave Me Lower Egt's, Raised My Rpm About 300, And Gives Me Just A Little Less Fuel Mileage Because Of The Higher Rpm.... But The Motor Doesn't Lug At Highway Speed And If You Ever Pull Anything You Will Really Want That Extra Grunt The Gears Give You....

4.10's with an Auto and 37's are a good combo. Not to steep to tow...fine for the strip or mileage cruz.

I had 35's and 4.10's on my old SRW. I would do 4.56's and 37's in a HEARTBEAT. That is a perfect combo in my opinion! good luck...

I've been asking around the same question Gears or power ? When I tow can't get the right power band for anything too steep. So I figuered now I m looking at power. My 12 valve is over 350 rwhp w/ 3:55 gears w/ 265/75/R16 and tows awsome. It isn't a 4x4 and its only a single cab. " I only Tow About 10 times a year the Mega Cab Needs The Best of Both Worlds EVERYDAY Fuel Economy and Power when time to tow. THe 5er wheighs about 14k I started some threads w the same Question last week here and EVERYBODY's answer is Different for their application all good answers ,just not the same combo's which really leave it up to me and you IGOR. sorry if i hi jacked this thread a little.
