I used a stock 2nd gen manifold,II 3rd gen silver64,trimed 3rd gen cold pipe and modded 2nd gen hx40 down pipe. intake pipe is a 2nd gen AEM with a modded 3rd gen afe box.grid heater relays were remounted to the batt tray and had to mod a few odds and ends to make it all work.

Truck sounds good, got rid of the raspy WOT. Has the 3rd gen engine noise mixed with a 24v 2nd gen exhaust tone.

So it sounds just like a 2nd 24v now? Im VERY interested in doing this mod if so. Could you post some sound clips of it? Does it run any different? Do both of these flow about the same?

Its still a common rail.. Having an exhaust manifold that is clocked slightly upward instead of straight down is not going to make it sound like anything other than a CR with a good turbo on it. Same as putting the turbo on the 3rd gen manifold.

It does look cool though!

Actually it sounds a whole lot better, I have ridden in this truck once the manifold was done and the sound is much smoother and the raspiness is gone, it now sounds like a 2nd gen with twins except deeper, and not to mention it runs hard.

What did you do on the oil drain tube from the turbo back to the pan?

It makes a HUGE difference. We put a 3rd gen manifold on a 2002 24v and it sounded like crap just like the CR's. I put an ATS 3rd gen (2 piece) on my '05 and it didn't change so I switched to an ATS 3pc and it now sounds more like a 24v instead of a big honda civic like most CR's sound.

2nd gen, you pop out the plug in the front drain and put it in the rear one.
you need to get the fitting from a 2nd gen also the 3rd is straight and the 2nd has a slight bend to it.

only real issue i had was waste gate hit the shock tower a little so i trimed the tower, not enough to weaken it.

Does any have, or know where a sound preview would be of this modification? I am really thinking of doing it if it makes them sound more like the old 24V.

I would make one but since this mod I've added twin turbos and my truck also now has a muffler.

Do you guys think there is enougth room to mount an exhaust brake and use a regular 4inch down pipe for a 2nd gen?

Rattle-wise, the HPCRs are quieter than the old 24Vs due to their multiple injection events; obviously, exhaust tone can differ when changing manifold configuration.

Is the factory oil feed line long enough?
