2nd gen manifold on a 3rd gen
2nd gen manifold on a 3rd gen
know im not the first but figured i'd share some pics
After gathering parts and dealing with a set of bad nozzels it's done:woohoo:

I used a stock 2nd gen manifold,II 3rd gen silver64,trimed 3rd gen cold pipe and modded 2nd gen hx40 down pipe. intake pipe is a 2nd gen AEM with a modded 3rd gen afe box.grid heater relays were remounted to the batt tray and had to mod a few odds and ends to make it all work.
Truck sounds good, got rid of the raspy WOT. Has the 3rd gen engine noise mixed with a 24v 2nd gen exhaust tone.

So it sounds just like a 2nd 24v now? Im VERY interested in doing this mod if so. Could you post some sound clips of it? Does it run any different? Do both of these flow about the same?
Its still a common rail.. Having an exhaust manifold that is clocked slightly upward instead of straight down is not going to make it sound like anything other than a CR with a good turbo on it. Same as putting the turbo on the 3rd gen manifold.
It does look cool though!

Actually it sounds a whole lot better, I have ridden in this truck once the manifold was done and the sound is much smoother and the raspiness is gone, it now sounds like a 2nd gen with twins except deeper, and not to mention it runs hard.

2nd gen, you pop out the plug in the front drain and put it in the rear one.
you need to get the fitting from a 2nd gen also the 3rd is straight and the 2nd has a slight bend to it.
only real issue i had was waste gate hit the shock tower a little so i trimed the tower, not enough to weaken it.

I should be able to tell you on the 14th I will be doing it this sunday, I still have the turbo and manifold off of my second gen and I will be putting them on this weekend.
