2011 BMW X5d

I know this isnt the forum, nor is it a cummins, but this is where i always post for my truck....in any event, got the wife a 2011 X5 Diesel...twin turbo 3.0l....265hp/425tq & 6spd Auto...rated 19/26mpg....not an offroader for sure, but handles like a 5 series, brakes are insane, ****s and gets and is just flat out fun as all get out....and it's extremely quiet...if standing outside by the hood a trained ear can tell it's a diesel, otherwise no one has a clue...bit more bell's and whistles as well...

But the best part is that there's a JBD programmer that adds 80hp/100tq...not sure i'll do that on a lease, but sure is tempting given the joy of the smarty on my truck....

$3800 Diesel Credit and $1800 Tax Credit until end of year...yes still expensive but if you dont go crazy with options and also add the $2500 mfg rebate....it's actually not to bad...

Anyway, it's a diesel, they make mods for it and it's quite a marvel IMHO....

Congrats, that is the exact vehicle that I would like to get my wife someday. Maybe when I pay the truck off. I didnt even think about the after market for the X5, let alone a programmer. I dont know if I could resist. Another vehicle I would like to drive is BMW's diesel car. It is supposed to get 40ish on the highway and have a faster 0-60 than a challenger.

Sweet. Love to have a 5 series with that engine.

Its it for business? If so you can take the full depreciation on this year's taxes.

Nice, I'll have to look them up. I had a chance to drive a VW Toureg TDI and it was a torquey sporty SUV. I was also looking at the Cayene S and Z71 Suburban.

I am thinking of buying an SUV next year.

I'm not sure i'll be able to resist a little extra juice...i know everyone on here can understand! I originally wanted to get the wife the 335d as it is faster and get's 36+ (stated) mpg....i did test drive and it's wonderful dynamics all around...problem is a 3 series is a bit tight on space and at 6"1 and 250lbs, i just dont fit in the thing comfortably (my buddy has a 335i and i can do short trips, but i'd jump out on a road trip...just too tight)...

I'd probably have gotten a 535d if they were available in the US (they make 530d's in EU, i've driven one a couple of times and they're awesome)...

Not for business unfortunately.

And FYI, they make a x5 40d in EU now...it's got the new 8spd trans and 306hp and i thin 475 tq....knocks a second of the 0-60 and get's a mpg better too....dont think they're bringing it to the states anytime soon however (unfortunately).

Give me a pm next time you're coming up...we'll go do a test run....guaranteed you'll be astonished...we have round abouts off my freeway exit and i've ben hitting those things hard...stays flat, powers through and the grip is just amazing....even at 2x's the speed of my truck or my wife's old car, it barely dips the outside corner, just a touch of tire squeel and i dont even think the xdrive is transferring power to the front....which means there's a lot more in it (but i'm trying not to stack the wifes new toy the first week she's got it).

I knew i wanted a BMW based off of tons of rental seat time in Europe and seeing first hand what they can do on the autobahn...but it always comes down to the particular model, where in the lifecycle it's at and if it truely fits your needs....i test drove the x5d and it was a no brainer...their may be better vehicles for others, but this thing is a 100% dead ringer for what we wanted....

Personally, i think the VW Toureg is very competative and also has true offroad capabilities that the x5 lacks...x5's xdrive is for street performance and snow/sand/poor traction...my truck is for my dirtbikes and offroad, so wasnt important to me....I wont buy a porsche until it's my 911 (have always wanted one, need the kids thru college before that one's even a possibility) and not particular keen on the looks of the porsche suv....the suburban is a whole diff vehcile class and didnt consider for what we needed...my buddy has the denali and it's a bad *** ride as far as luxury, size / space, power,...but it's too big for what we wanted and a 5 series chassis it's not.

Go drive all of them, there's not a bad one among them...just preferences.

Good to go. We'll line them up and see I like a BMW, man, they are sharp.

In a straight line of course....dont get me wrong, trucks not going anywhere, but only having owned large suv's and large trucks my whole life....it's a welcome experience to get to drive a 5k lb sportscar....

I think with the JBD on kill the x5 can do mid 5's in the 0-60 and high 13/low 14 in the qtr mile (vs.6.9/low 15 stock)...so my trucks got it beat no matter what....that and dirtbikes dont fit on the x5...

I know what you mean...

I wanted to buy a used X5; however, they're all auto. (BMW w/ automatic is like sharing time w/ a supermodel & having to wear a condom) Had to special-order an '03 X5/5spd from S.Carolina (x-drive6spd came in '04) Jumping from the mega-cab 4x4 to the X5 feels like I'm in a go-kart, but I have a bad habit of trying to take off in 2nd gear like I do w/ my truck.

I agree, but having a stick for my wifes car/ driving is like buying a new clutch every week and being maried to 5 supermodels...

We looked at the 335d last year before buying the Jetta TDI. I fit better in the 3 series coupe than the 4 door or the 5 series sedan. The Jetta was $15K cheaper, that kind of made the decision for me on this go around. The Jetta has been awesome so far, and I can't complain about the MPG.
