2004 Georend 48RE and Pacbrake ? Anyone....

Is anyone running a Georend 48RE tranny with a Packbrake on a 2004 ? Is there any issues with it wanting to shift with the converter locked ? How does this setup work overall ?

The pacbrake controller will not make the tranny shift locked. The pacbrake controller is to keep the TC locked up for use of the exhaust brake. You will alos need to tell Dave that you are going to use an exhaust brake. There is a drum inside that needs the holes welded up to ensure lubrication to a thrust washer or else you will destroy it with an exhaust brake. Put it to you this way, I got the modded drum from Dave and replaced mine along with a new thrust washer. I only had 38,000 miles on the truck with no exhaust brake and the thrust washer was worn real bad. Do tell dave everything you want to do so he can advise you properly.

Apparently Dave was telling me they do that mod on all the 48's they rebuild. Are you using a Pacbrake ? So no issues ? Does the 04.5 use the Pacbrake controller ? Are you running his converter with -300 stall ? If so do you see the check engine light ever ?

No, I haven't installed a Pacbrake yet. I would go with a looser converter such as the one I have, the 15 blade left cut, especially if you tow heavy or are considering a turbo upgrade in the future. The only trucks that don't need the controller are the 06' and 07' 5.9 trucks.

I'm sure that was the tq conv we talked about. He said 15 blade stator with a lower stall of 300 rpm. We talked about a issue he had with a customer who had a brake that did not disengage tq conv until 40mph or 40% throttle (something like that) and had the tranny shifting with the tq conv locked which Georend does not want to see. Just trying to find some real use info on this exact combo.

Ats, Suncoast and some other brands all shift with the tc locked, they only depend on roadspeed, I had a ATS and went to the Pac cause it will disengage if you go over 40% TPS. with the others you have to reach over and physically turn off the TC control box otherwise you could never climb a hill. Just my 2 cents
