2004 with Crankcase breather canister leaking

I have a stock 2004 cummins made before july 04. I believe it is the Crankcase breather canister on top of the motor. Small black box that goes back into the crankcase. It is leaking oil from the return line. Does this have a filter inside of it, and if so how do I get it apart? If no filter where can I find this part to replace it? Both lines going to the canister are in good shape so I don't believe the leak is coming from either of them.

Yes, I am sure I have read threads about removing and cleaning @ 80k intervals. I am not there yet, but I would think a cleaning solvent or airfilter cleaner or Simple Green would work. IIRC it is a steel mesh filter.

If you have excessive blow by, a clean filter may leak worse...

I recently pulled mine off and cleaned it the best I could with some Carb Cleaner. Then I hit it with compressed air to dry it out. The problem is that it's a sealed unit and you really cannot see the filter at all. I just got a bunch of cleaner inside it and plugged all the holes then shook it violently. Mine had been leaking too and after about two weeks I do not see any visible signs that it is still leaking. I have not pulled the valve cover off though to verify this. Before, the oil was coming out around the bottom of the valve cover.....

Mines never been cleaned in almost 300k miles. No leaks out of it so I don't worry too much about it.

Crap.....I better go pop the hood and check it now that I said that .

Thank you for all the help. It's a minor leak, but very frustrating espically since this is my first diesel!
