2003 - 2005 Jake Brake

I would appreciate your input on a Jake Brake, what are they worth and how much does it cost to install? Or can it be installed without taking it to a garage??

Is there a lot of market for Jake Brake's?

Thanks John H

there is no "Jake" brakes for our Cummins. A "Jake" goes in the big rigs engine internal in the exhaust side of the valve train to help slow the rig down. Jacobs makes a exhaust brake that works very good for our Cummins. It goes in the exhaust behind the turbo. Check out jacobs.com web/pacbrake.com web/ bd-power.com web/ bankspower.com web for info and prices. If your buying a new truck get the Jacobs exhaust brake and it has a Dodge warranty.
I have a Jacobs on my Dodge with the 6spd tranny. Perfect tow vehicle that puts the brake on my 11200 lb 5er comming down long steep grades in the mountains or just daily use.......JIM

Actually, they're just called a Jake brake because Jacobs makes them. Two different setups though. The one for the 3/4 and 1-tons uses a butterfly valve on the exhaust pipe, the one on the big trucks opens the exhaust valves around TDC compression stroke. No compression, no ignition, no power stroke.

Unless you have an '06 I don't think DC wants you to put an exhaust brake on an automatic. But for a hand shaker they are one of the best options you could spend your hard earned money on. If you are mechanically inclined self install is fine. Expect to pay around a grand give or take.

You can go over to www.jakebrake.com and under the support tab you can download the installation instructions.

I did mine myself, and it was pretty straight forward. I don't know anything about the install on the auto, though.
