2 micron or not
2 micron or not
ok going to order a gdp fuel pump so i can run my smarty on the higher settings just want to know is it worth extra money for the 2 micron filter set up and is the big line kit needed
If you install the 2 micron your stock lift pump will have lots of pressure variance as the 2 micron will drop your psi on the cp3 side of things dramatically you will need the big line kit and the walbro pump. If you install the 2 micron alone you will see the P0148 code like crazy.

I've never had a P0148 code with my factory lift pump, 2-micron big line kit and Quad 100 h.p. box. Are you referring to someone with more fueling mods?

All dodge cummins vehicles with build date of january of 2006 and later have a 5 micron in the filter housing when you bought it so make sure when you buy one they arent shafting you at the parts store with an old 10 micron. And with just a quad and 2 mircron and factory pump you should be able to suck pressure down pretty good, its when it drops below 8psi that you see p0148 i believe.
No way it throws that code at 8psi. The stock pump only runs 9psi at idle, so it would be throwing it like crazy. There's also no fuel pressure sensors on the low-pressure side of the system.
I agree with OT-OF-Here, the 2-micron filter is not a choice it IS a mandatory situation to proptect your injectors, etc. Using a 5-micron filter is kind of getting close and will buy you more injector lifetime, but ultimately it is the particles down to the 2-microns that kill your injectors AND you WILL ultimately have problems with them. I installed the GDP 2-micron with the big line kit when it first came out. I was all over that puppy BECAUSE there were so many people having injector problems that got solvedd with the correct filtration needs. After reading all the stuff from various sources on GM sites regarding BOSCH and their recommendations it was just a no-brainer since it was a basic recommendation from BOSCH to the manufacturer.
Since the GM guys were way ahead of us in/with the injector problems, they finally relieved the situation with the 2-micron filtering AND when all the dust settled it was BOSCH who told them they recommended 2-micron filtration from the start. GM took the higher path with their buyers and corrected each and every filtration system on their trucks, also extended warranties on the fuel system for their customers.
The SAME applies to our injectors and BOSCH's recommendations to DC. It was DC who did not follow the injectors manufacturers recommendations, so we started having ALL the same issues as the GM guys for the same reasons. Of course, DC has not taken the higher path in taking care of their customers, so we are all having to flit the costs to solve the problems on our own. I know of a couple dealerships who are now recommending their customers install the 2-micron filtering, but in truth, this should have been a recall and DC should have done this for everyone at their expense.
The 2006 trucks came out of the factory with the 10-micron filter, the 2007 5.9 and 2007.5 6.7 came with the 7-micron and a bulletin was released by DC to discontinue use of the 10-micron filter and use the 7-microns. I believe that Baldwin is the only manufacturer who is making a 5-micron fillter at this time. Rumor has it that Fleetguard will be putting a 5-micron out, but that has yet to come to fruition.

When 2 micron is mentioned is that nominal or absolute? Need the specs to make sure your getting the best filtration possible.
For example, the Baldwin PF7977 is 2 micron nominal, 5 micron absolute @ 98.75% efficiency.
