2 micron filter and pump for my ISBe Ford ?
2 micron filter and pump for my Cummins in Ford ?
How should I plumb the fuel system for the Dodge Cummins I am installing in my '99 Ford Superduty ?
Right now the truck has a frame mounted fuel pump that supplies quite a bit of fuel at 60PSI without any problem. A supply line and return line go up to the engine bay. There is a sock pickup screen in the tank.
Having read about everyones clean fuel concerns and the CP3 and injectors on these engines, I'd like to run a double filter 2 micron system.
The easiest system for me would be:
- keep the Ford pump, which seems capable of more volume and pressure than the CP3 needs.
- install a 10 micron filter on the frame of the truck on the pressure side of the pump.
- install a 2 micron filter in place fo the stock filter.
- connect the stock return line to the filter return.
My DC is a 2005 and it isn't here yet. I'm also waiting for my 2005 Shop Manual. I've read that these engines don't have an engine mounted pump. The fuel pump for a 2005 is in the tank. Is that right ?
I'm assuming that they do have a backpressure/check valve downstream of the CP3 to keep the pump pressurized ? Or is that in the CP3 itself ?
Do I have to worry about over pressurizing the CP3 in some way ? Do I have to worry about over pressurizing the filter or housings ? (I've seen this pump put out 80 PSI.)
I thought the CP3 in the Chevs drew fuel all the way from the tank by itself, thus had its own internal pump ? Does the Cummins CP3 have its own internal supply pump ?
Does anyone run one of those low fuel pressure sensors on the HPCR DCs like they are using with the VP44s 24Vs?
Thanks in advance.

ISBe engine is a different engine then the one made for Dodge, are you sure you didnt get a ISB out of a Dodge , the ISBe was basically built for the European market and there are some version used here in the USA , they are different from the medium duty truck engine also , whole different fuel system configurations. The CP3 only requires a positive press. available to the pump.
I guess I have my terminology wrong then.
The engine is an 05 Dodge Cummins from an 05 Dodge truck. Should I call it an 05 DC ?
I can see what you are saying, because an ISBe has EGR and such and these engines don't. I'll edit my post to remove the ISBe terminology.
