2 fuel system upgrade questions...Air Dog or FASS

At what level (hp) is it recommended to upgrade a stock fuel system to somthing like an Air Dog or FASS?

Not trying to get anyone to say anything bad about either product but what's the difference between an Air Dog and a FASS?

Anyone know the gph flow rate of a stock lift pump? The Raptor appears to come in 100 and 150 gph flow rates. Thanks in advance

Not sure on the flow ratings of stock LP but both the AD and the FASS come in 100, 150, 165, and 200 GPH ratings. If you run any kind of larger than stock injector or an aggressive programmer....you're taxing the limit of the factory LP. Both are good products, basically identical, as from reading news about it years ago, it was a father/son team that went seperate ways...hence the AirDog company and the FASS company. I have an older AD 150 (being rebuilt as we speak.....motor was worn out...5 yrs old) that was relatively loud...like the older FASS systems...but 3 weeks ago I helped a friend install the AD 165 and I thought something was wrong with it from the start.....it was WAAAYYYYY quieter than mine!!! Both have come a long way since their inception and both are good quality units!!!

I have ~400 rwhp and am pushing fuel thru 3 filters with no issues on the intank system.

The 100GPH pump is good to about 550-600 rwhp (per FASS), above that you need the 150's.

The pumps don't move that much all the time, they just have the ability to. I would stick with the 100 unless you need the bigger pump for power, this way you don't every outflow your filters.

The OEM pump is around 50 GPH from what I figure thou have seen no real data on it. I pulled about 90 GPH from mine at no load in a 30 second test on day, but not the most scientific.

Cool...so no preference toward either Air Dog or FASS...can't go wrong with either one? All I'm going to do is open up my exhaust a bit and install a Smarty Jr. after I upgrade the TC/VB on the tranny. I'm sure the 100gph model will do just fine.

I watched the online demo where they show how much entrained air is in the fuel...I had no idea there was that much. Pretty cool how it removes it.

I'm very happy with my AD 100. The water separator works much better than the stock setup too. When the engine is running, you can't even hear the pump running.

The f/w sep only works better than stock if you aren't running the AD filter, otherwise it's not as efficient.

Good point, but the fleet guard filters are what I put on it.
When I first put it on the truck, I would drain it every tank and I would get almost no water (I got the same with the stock setup though). When I changed it out, I had stopped draining it every tank and was only doing it every 4-5 tanks....until it got cold (about 20 degrees) and the water that had accumulated in the separator froze  Truck just wouldn't run. Took the pre filter/seperator off and the whole bottom 2/3s was a chunk of ice.

AFIK Fleetguard doesn't have a filter that meets OEM specs, at the flow rate of the AD. The AD's now come with a Luberfiner, and are transitioning to the Baldwin. The Baldwin is the only one that meet's OEM specs, any other filter is a step backwords from stock.

You had better find a different place to fuel. That is WAY too much water to have in your fuel and indicates the source is compromised.

I'd hate to see what is getting thru is doing to your fuel system.

Thanks to AH64ID for his filter info on "The other Forum." I went with the CAT filter and the higher end Fleetguard WS. Just put them on yesterday with the re-installation of my AD150 (had to send it in for a rebuild). Time will tell but I think I'll be happy with this new filter setup.

Which Cat filter # did you use? Did you have any problems with interference between the mount and filter? I read a while back that the cat filters was larger in diameter than the factory and fleetguard filters.

I'll have to check the part #....1R-0751...I think....I'll go take a look here in a bit. I had the pump removed from the mounting plate when I put my filter on and there is just enough room to move the bracket and get it away from the filter head. Once you get your clearance just tighten the bracket up and you're good to go.

That was a great thread about the CAT 1R0751.

Question...I haven't even ordered my Airdog2 yet but will as soon as the funds are available...when installing the AD2 (or FASS) is the stock fuel filter/water separator/canister still part of the fuel system or does it get bypassed/removed?
