18"X9" with 4.5 backspacing will it work?

i have an 03 2500 quadcab 4X4
i ordered a set of 18X9 with 4.5 bs, the salesman assured me they would work on the stock suspension, with no leveling kit required
i was going to run 285/65/r18
i dont want to lift the truck, but from what im reading on these forums, i may have seriously goofed
will this setup work?

i have ordered ats fender flares, and wanted to fill them up

i want the oversized wheel and tire look without the hassle

the wheel i ordered is the 1091 series American racing cannon

it is available in 5 and 1/4 backspacing, would this work better?

any help or pointers would be GREATLY appreciated

otherwise i may be fighting with the salesman

With 4.5 backspacing it will rub. You will be better off with 5.25 or 5.50.

those tires are less than a 33"...i don't think you'll rub with that backspacing.

Yep 4.5" will definately rub. I hate it when all these sales people try to push wheels with 4.5" backspacing on customers. I guess they think all of us want 12" of lift and 40's. You would be much better off with the 5.25" backspacing and it would still fill up your flares pretty nicely.

I didn't even see that. You may get away without rubbing but it may look a tad funny with the small tires and wide wheels. Not really sure though; it may look totally fine.

if it does rub, will it be so slight that a leveling kit up front will negate it?

and will this backspacing cause my ball joints to wear out faster?

im gonna try to stop the order and swap to the 5.25 bs, but...
depends on the salesman i guess

with the 5.25 bs could i go with a larger tire? 305/60/18?
i asked all the tire shops around where i live and they all said my current setup would work...man oh man i wish i had found these forums b4 tonight
tks for all the input guys

i also missed the part about it being available in the 5.25...you'd be much better off with that. but i still think you'll be fine with the other. try them out and since the salesman guaranteed you won't rub, make him swap them if they do!!

with the 5.25 backspacing you should be able to run up to a 35" tire with no leveling kit.

The lift will probably help, but, thats not the problem. The wrong back spacing screws with the driving characteristics and puts too much stress on what are marginal components. Death wobble is way to common and the wrong wheel will contribute greatly.

The OEM offset is 45mm get as close as you can to this number.

I'm running the Weld EVO in 18 x 8.5 with a 6.522" back space and 45mm offset.

i used to run a 33x12.50x17 mtz on a 17x9 moto wheel, with 4.53" b/s with ats flares before i had any lift, and i had no rubbing issues. if you run a 33" tire on wheels with near stock b/s, you might find that your ats fender flares will look kinda silly, as your set-up will not stick out from your fenders, then you'll have about 2 1/2" of flare with no tire under it.

Wow..... that's unusual. Not saying you don't know what you are talking about because I'm sure you do. I couldn't get 33" Nitto's on Moto Metal 951's to fit even with a leveling kit and not have rubbing. It took 5" and then I had to go up to a 35" tall tire and it barely missed rubbing then. I guess some trucks are just different for some reasons. Who knows....

That's right the ATS flares would look a little silly with narrow wheels/tires, but if he runs the wheel with 5.25" backspacing on a 12.5" wide tire or so, it would look fine in my opinion. My 9" wide wheels have 5" of backspacing and the tires sit level with the flares (if not just a hair outside of them) and it looks great.
