I think that one is too short.

Try e-taps.com.

does somebody have a link for one that is long enough to bottom tap the block without the head removal if it exists? I need to buy a tap also.

I'll try anything at this point, but that tap is 6" long which seems to be the perfect length.

Pull the head...you went that far...just do the little left. Change springs...head gasket etc and just do it right...once.

If it were only that easy... $$$

Someday springs and a cam will come but not now... My headgasket is tip-top. No need to mess with it currently, and hopefully not in the future..

Jeff K, I ordered the tap as it is the only one I can find that is long enough.. or we shall see...

Well, I have a telescopic magnet tipped pen-like device, and 2 shop-vacs. If that won't do it maybe I can get a streetwalker who has great oral skills to give me a hand, or a mouth...
Seriously, I'll have the tap tomorrow as the supply house is half and hour from me, but now I just have to schedule around 8hrs to git-r-done...

you run an aftermarket head gasket? or just a stocker? I didnt know it there was one out there available for the common rail that was fire ringed or better.
pourin says pull the head. If I pull the head I want to send it off. dont have the funds for that right now.

You don't need to pull the head. You can do it with a regular tap if you grind the end off and use a socket and a long extention. Also the telescoping magnet works great for removing shavings. Just take you time and oil the tap and run it in and out a few times. I had the correct tap and still found it easier to use 1/4" drive rachet and an extention and a standard length tap. Tap handles are great if there isn't a lot of crap in the way (firewall).

If you ground the end off the tap, how exactly are you using the socket and extention? It would have to be a very small socket to be able to drop down into the head, no?

Tony, dont forget the pics.

What are taps made of? What about welding and extention to a normal tap?

Dont know if you can weld taps but its a thought.

Pics will be taken. I thought about welding it, but I also thought about it breaking off and getting stuck in the head/block...
