It is not that simple...
There is ZERO difference in required performance between a B tire at 1200 lbs and a D tire at 3600 lbs in the CFR's.
The stiffer thing is an old wives tale...
My 97 lb 37x13.5x17 D rated is FAR STIFFER than the OEM E rated tire it replaced.
I would not be scared of the 3000 lb ratede XAT.
Typically a load range D tire with a high load rating is a large tire...which has a lot more surface area for those "psi's" to push against. More area less force can equal the same or greater than less area more force. Less force means less TEMPERATURE!
I could go on for days...
DO not fear high load rated D's.

I often tow a 20-25k with a 8.5 k truck...even "Smokey and the Bandit" style running 1k through the night nonstop in 14 hours.
I guess it is just my opinion...even if the testing/regulating codes support it.

How many miles you getting out of them CQ?
I see they have a 40k mile warranty.
... and how would you compare them to the Toyo AT's?
(which seem to be liked by lotsa people on here)
My Coopers are rated to carry the same weight as the stockers they replaced, but I'm still not impressed with their 'toughness' (if that makes sense)

I have 50k on a pair on my 04.5 (35x13.5x18) and they have 5-10k left...they have maybe a 1/4" left. That truck is hard on tires because of the 4.5" bs wheels.
My 37's on my 04 have 30k on them and really not much visual wear at all except a few slightly chuncked edges on the rear after a 300 ft burnout of a freshly chip sealed road...what was I thinking!
The last pair of 37's on my 04 lasted till 60ish k....

I have never had good luck with Cooper ST, SST, or ATR's...
BFG MT's KO...have done me well too...but the XAT's are my new favorite and I will run them as long as they mzake them.
Toyo's are ok...AT's just have such short tread height...they last ok for starting with 7 or 8 32's less than the XAT's...but tread depth is traction to me.

Know anything about the Pro Comp "all Terrains"?
I'm thinkin they might be better in the rain (we get lotsa that here), a little more mild mannered...?

The non Extreme Procomps are going to perform more like your Coopers...
They were made by Cooper...
The XAT is the best snow/rain/pavement tire I have ever run that is still great off road...hangs with a Toyo MT in the mud!
They are so quiet too...
A few people have had trouble balancing them...but the balance was not the problem! It takes 60-80 psi to seat the bead because the tire is so beefy...and most shops don't do this...so the tire is out of round because the bead is not seated evenly. They balance on the machine...but then ride like CRUD. If they bead is seated right...they balance and RIDE WELL!

If you have a 4wheelparts near you...they have the best price. They are expensive...but cheaper than Toyos.
BTW...Cooper makes ALOT of other label's tires. Some good...some bad. They build per supplied spec.

With the load rating of the 35x12.50x17's being 3000 lbs and our trucks GAWR being 6200, wouldn't that be a bad thing as the tires are rates less that what the axles can hold?

Interesting, both the stock E rated 265's and my 285 D rated Coopers are rated at 3195 pounds (notthat I think 200 pounds is going to make a big difference)

To me they weren't any different on the road than the stockers. Not really any noticeable noise like alot of mt's. I got over 40k miles on mine, probablyu closer to 50k, and that was on a 6" rim. Just had to keep them rotated.

With the 315/70/17 BFG's I run I've noticed that if I don't run near max psi in the fronts they sag... So I run 47 in them.
I wouldn't run a tire that is below 3195lbs per tire.... I wish they made a pro comp Xtreme A/T in 35x12.50x17 in E or at least 3195lbs.
I am going with hankook M/T's now though and will install them this weekend. 10ply 3500lbs per tire.

yeah, I wish that too, but I've got a price for the XT AT's (410 ea, ouch) and I might try them on CQ's recommendations, they sound like they're built pretty tough but it's weird they're only D rated.
