Question 05 exhaust system- Whats better?

I just got my new 2500 about a month ago and was wondering what exhaust would give me the loudest sound and best performance. is it better to have a single 5 inch system or a dual 5 inch, or maybe 5 inch straight pipeing? O ya by the way i LOVE black smoke!!! should i keep putting mods on and it will smoke more or is the any certain product that can help me out.

Unless you are going for 550+ hp,cut the stock can off and straight pipe it. A 5 inch system will do nothing for performance unless you get really crazy. If you want to make alot of smoke, there are several systems that will get you that. First off,you need at minimum an egt gauge. That much extra fuel makes heat, and you need to be able keep an eye on it.

I looked into this ALOT before doing my exhaust and found the same results that bigman is talking about. Unless you are planning on some crazy mods the 4 inch pipe is good. I ran off the cat that hung around my truck, got rid of the muffler and put a 4040 Aeroturbine on it. They have sound files on their website. Mileage improvements (in the short term) have been about 1.5 mpg. And the sound is almost as loud as straight, but it has a bit of a deeper tone to it. Have had it on only 4 weeks but so far I love it.

loudest truck= stait pipe. I would think from there would be just a 4" resonator. if you want it toned down from there just add a muffler. I don't know what kind of sound restriction the cat give the truck. On a car there is quite a bit of volume lost there.

I can't imigine needing 5" unless you were going to do some big time box stacking. I don't think there is any single box/programer alone that would push past the 4" stock system.

I tink rule of thumb on black smoke is lots of fuel without boost. I am not sure which box give you the most smoke though. I am exactly the other way I want quite, no smoke so most of the stuff I have researched is not what you want.

hyperlite,

Get the HOT Edge Juice and Attitude, our MBRP replacement muffler that's built from 409 stainless along with the cat test pipe in stainless and an AFE Stage II intake and you'll be smoking and going better than you can imagine!!

We have sold a lot of these combos for those that want the HP and smoke and it does the trick every time!

I have been surching and cant seem to find consistant numbers on the edge hot juice. What exactly are the rateings on the hot juice, hp and tq, and how much does it cost. Will it make good thick black smoke in an 05 with now muffler and no kitty?

I have TST but I believe the Hot Juice is rated at 180hp/450tq. I was really interested in the Juice but since most of the guys with big hp on the commonrail have TST that who I went with. You'll find that the Juice is really smooth, but with the higher levels you'll have high egts, run out fuel from lp, and need a drivetrain upgrade.
