I finally got one after years and years of fighting it and I could not be happier. I got the 6spd auto and I really like it. I have never been a auto fan even after having some high performance autos, but this one works really well. I have only had mine 13 days but have 2150 miles on it (and it sat for 2 days) and no probs yet, not even a light. I think that most of the guys that have probs drive them like a little old lady and do not get it hot enough to clean out the DPF and EGR. I turn on the exhaust brake every time I get in and it works great and have had not probs with it sticking. I stayed up till 2-3 AM for 4 nights reading every post on here for the last 6 months about the 6.7 and I think that it will be a good truck. I really think that you need to get on it a little from time to time to keep it cleared out. A lot of guys with probs also let it idle way to long. I let mine idle for 15-20 min max even on my old trucks, after that your just wasting fuel. If you need to let it idle more than that you need the Manual High Idle activated on your truck so that you can bump up the idle to 1000-1200 rpm so that it wont get to cool and plug up the DPF. Good luck.

not all the problems are emissions related.

I asked about trading my '04 on an '07, 80% of respondents here told me no, I did it anyways, 2 months later they said "told you so"

if there's nothing seriously wrong with it, I'd try to talk her into keeping her '04

I know its not all emissions related but that's about 75% of what I read about. I am as anti computer and emission junk as any one maybe more. I'm sorry you have had probs and I know there are going to be bad ones what ever you buy. There is a guy around here with a 06 5.9 6spd manual that has huge Lemon stickers all over his truck in the shape of the fruit and says it has spent more time in the shop than he has got to drive it. He says that Dodge refuses to work with him on it and make good on fixing all the probs he has had. I know another guy that had his lemon lawed for having to have 6 clutches put in it buy the dealer in less than 15K. He had a 05 and put over 150K on it and had the stock clutch in it and never slipped it. Both trucks were bone stock and had all service done at the dealer.

I agree though if you are not having any probs with the 04 I would keep it. I only got a new truck because I have a baby on the way and am tired of all the little (and big things) things that are always messing up on a 300+K 12year old truck. My time is going to get a lot more valuable than it is now. I have never had a new truck or, less than 100K, less than 12 years old, or over $6K, and never had a payment, so this was a big jump. From all the work I have done for guys on 03-07 5.9 that was not covered buy the dealer I don't think I will have any more probs than a lot of these guys. Why not you drive here truck and trade your truck?

no cons on my truck. just pros. best truck ive ever owned. even like it better than my 03. i had and 05 then traded it in for an 06 and traded the 06 in on the 08. i had a couple small issues with the 05 but was a good truck for the most part. the 06 was a different story. 32000 miles and 3 injectors 1 injector line ,1 tranny, ujoints, 1 injection pump, surging issue. all stock. i now have 15000 miles on my 08 and it outpulls my 5.9s stock outruns them and the exhaust brake is awsome. miliage is 16 on the highway with it and towing 11000 lbs i get 11 or so. 3.73 gears 6spd auto. not sure why everyone hates the 6.7 so much. people need to face the fact that this is the new engine and will be for some time. 5.9's where awsome but there not an option anymore. people have a hard time accepting new things. we went through the same thing when we went from the 12v's to the 24's and from them to the common rails. people were very unsure of the cr and every little problem they had people would say " ill just stick with what i have". now look at them. turned out to be a good engine. think about how many 6.7's are on the road. we only hear about a few here that have problems. hovisimo's truck is a lemon hands down. i understand that but i had a 06 with more problems than he has with his 6.7. it happens.

My 07.5 is a workhorse - just rolled 110k miles. So far I've replaced 1 set of tires @ 78k miles, the Bilstiens at the same time and now some light bulbs, they're goin 1 at a time. The rest has been regular maintence stuff - filters, fluids etc. Mine was an early 07.5 which of course made me the guinea pig at my dealer. They knew by how I used my previous 04.5 steed - 330k miles in 2years, that I would be racking up the miles on this one too. I was their GP through all the early "flashes". Nothing ever was replaced on the truck, although the CEL has been on for more miles than it's been off. Performance-wise, you can't beat the power, but the power costs in less fuel economy. My truck is usually travelling @ 75 m.p.h. or close too, on cruise most of the time, so m.p.g.'s around that speed have never increased past a rare 16 but usual 15.5 hand calced & digitally monitored. I have burned almost 1,000 gals. more running my 07.5 to the 100k mile mark as compared to my 04.5's first year or second year.Trade offs in everything, I guess. I did run one trip slower and got a little better m.p.g.'s but the lost time out on the road over a 1,300 mile run I chose to sacrifice m.p.g.'s rather than m.p.h's. and got home quicker - more sleep for me.

I'm glad to see the mostly positive replies on the 6.7s with both manual and auto trannys .... it means that the Dodge/Cummins is going to be alive and well for the foreseeable future!

you could always have them put on the Katskinz (spelling) accessory leather. If you like the truck that much but just wish it had leather, that would be an easy thing to do and im sure you could have that thrown in for that price. That price doesnt sound too bad though as I got my quad cab for around $36 and i believe the mega cabs go for around 5k more.

Sure like mine. It's a real winner so far.

Yesterday, running pretty hard back from Tucson averaged 17 mpg with only 3K on the clock. I expected a lot worse. A lot worse. Fill up gallons verified
consumption.

On the same trip, my 06' 5.9 only got 17.5 to 18 mpg at best with 45k miles. I guess I over reacted about the 6.7 mpg.

Boy howdy, about the dealers charging $119 for an oil change (compared to $60 for the 5.9)! Glad the first one was free. As you guys say...

Stick to your guns they can come down 10,000 to 12,000 of MSRP if that gives you a hint on where they should be. If they are not there, walk.

It's a new year, early bugs from the '07.5 should be worked out by now, improvements and upgrades are done, etc - the '08 should be an improved truck - lots of guys never had any probs with the initial release, so the latest version should be well ahead of that - other than that, ya pays yer nickel, ya takes yer chances, eh.........

Really like my 08.

I got it in Nov. and turned 7000 mi today. Not a single problem that needed attention (other than the vibration that is not engine related, I think it is tires). See my sig below for the previous Dodge, I would much, MUCH rather tow with this truck. The 08 pulls almost as good and I do not ever even consider thinking about EGT's now (that was the power hold up on my 01). I bought this truck for 35k and paid $595 for lifetime 3k mile oil changes and an additional $980 for a 100k/36 mo bumper to bumper warranty. I am more pleased with the YES essentials seat/interior materials (stain, odor, and static resistant) than I could have imagined. My 2 yr old has spilled all kinds of stuff in here and I got the whole truck sprayed by a skunk calling varmints, the interior still looks and smells new. I put the 08 in the body shop for a week and drove my 01, this truck suits me much better (I also had a 03 that I hated). Most of the 6.7 haters do not have one.
