My uncle is replacing his PSD with a new truck. I told him stay away from the 6.0 so hes looking at some duramax trucks and some 03+ Cummins trucks. He found a used 07 6.7 in the paper with 13K. He was asking about the trans. And I had to tell him I don’t know much about the new trucks but ill find out. What all can you guys tell me about the new autos. And more importantly the new 6.7. I have heard there still trying to work the bugs out. Anything he should watch out for?

He will love the new six speed automatic.

As far as the 6.7L, it is a strong engine but was(is still?) hampered by problems with the emissions system (Diesel Particulate Filter). I'd steer clear of the truck if the CEL is on. If not on, have him take it to the dealer to see if it has the latest ECM flash (version AW).

I've had mine since June. It has been in the shop for a total of three days for a new turbo at 4700 miles. No problems since and no problems with the DPF with 9500 miles now.

Absolutely love my truck, especially the 6 speed auto. I've had all the latest flashes and runs like a charm as it always has. 8,000 miles on it so far.

 

Look at the mfg date on the door jamb...........early 07.5 had some problems......If it has had all the updates, though , it may be O.K........I have an 07.5 with the auto and never had an ounce of trouble from it so far........runs alot stronger than my old 5.9.........and the exhaust brake is icing on the cake........I love it.......no problems at all............that being said , I'm sure you will get naysayers though........some have had problems that dont seem to end........mostly all from the dpf system........at least it would still be under factory warranty

 

make sure he drives a new duramax before he makes his mind up.
