Water in air filter problem??

Went for a routine oil change...and the air filter which is new was completely mangled. It obviously took in alot of water and messed up the filter.

I have not washed my engine, nor done any offroading. A few puddles on the side of the road, but nothing that should cause me to take it alot of water!!

Anyone have this issue?? And know why my filter would be so exposed to water like that??

Snow has been melting here, but this shouldnt happen

You may have taken in a lot of snow and had freeze /thaw cycles and got sucked. It is common in powder snow.

oops, made a mistake.

Funny, think your mom said the same thing.

No need to try so hard to be a smart mouth. It wouldve been easier to just say..." hey you posted in the wrong forum"

I lost a couple of filters on my 04.5 during heavy wet snow storms. Saw a couple folks that must've had the same problem as they rigged up some changes to the induction tube up front. One guy had put an old license plate over the factory baffle. Running thru big puddles can throw alot of water up front too. I was going to swiss-cheese the box like a lot of others do but after losing the first filter changed my mind on that.

Just to clear up about my original post...Im sure this COULD happen to some 6.7 owners so Ill warn you.

Dont use purolator brand air filters. That was my problem...not water. At my last oil change...I let them change the filter. ( I dont go to the dealer, I go to a place called oil changers, its dealer warrantied) Anyway they used that generic brand.

I founf out last night after talking to a friend with a diesel. That their air filters may fit but are NOT good for the diesel. It was bend because it was being suncked into the air box, the wire netting isnt strong enough and doesnt hold up.

I am going back to the place to get my money back. I ordered a KN last night. Untill then I'll buy a stock air filter.

Uh Oh, K&N may not be the best choice. Used one of those too on my 99' Cummins. They're not the best for filtration - let alot of small stuff thru. I think if you do a search on here you will find that most feel the K&N is taboo for our Cummins.
If you don't want to get ripped buying a filter from the dealer try using a NAPA Gold. I used NAPA Gold air filters on my 04.5 for 330k miles with no problems.

What happened to your filter can happen to any brand you put in there for the OEM spec replacement. It is a case of the filter getting damp then frozen or clogged up with snow.

Good 1 Mindy

A long time ago, I bought a K&N at my Dodge dealer's parts counter. I ran it 50,000 miles in my old 5.9. I changed it out for an aFe. The only difference I could tell, is more turbo whistle. 99,000 on the truck now, and it doesn't use oil. Good luck.
