Angry Warning!! Do Not Trust Dealers

Well i had my chance...............my chance to blow the motor and get out of the truck if i wanted to.

Well my change oil light goes on yesterday and i have been swamped lately but usually do the oil stuff on my own. I have NEVER once taken a vehicle to the dealer to get the oil changed. Well i made an appointment for today and left the office early to get her done. After a 40 minute wait they come and tell me its done and give me my papers and i pay for it. Thank them on the way out and jump in the truck. Put my hand on the consol and it slides off of it!!!! Look down and there is (profane word) oil all over the consol the ignition the steering column the door and the floor mats. Needless to say im torqued but kept my cool walked back in and had the service manager come look at it. He makes a kid go and detail. Well a half hour later they are done and i inspect it and ok it. I get in and start her up(i notice she is running rough)look up on the overhead and saw the "change oil" thing still on there and the stupid chime again. I know i can reset that myself but figured since i paid 60 bucks for the oil change that i would get the light reset as well. Go in and tell them once again im not happy. They come out again and reset the light and i tell the service manager that it sounds funny. Here comes the best part!!!!

Not happy at all i get in and can tell something is wrong. Notice the oil pressure is a little lower than normal. I start away from the parking spot they put it in and it sounds horrible!!!!!!!!!!! I look down and NO OIL PRESSURE. I in a split second turn it off and stop it in the road and go storming back into the office. They see me coming and i ask "did you put any (profane word) oil in the (profane word) engine" right in front of a bunch of customers. They come out and check it and sure enough no oil!!!. Well i kept my calm a little longer and started to think liability. While i was telling him to give me a refund i also made him make a note on the service argreement EXACTLY what happend. Told him if that motor ends up taking a dive anytime in the next year they are going to get the bill not me!! Got him to sign it and date it and got the oil and filter for free. I am going to have the oil tested this week to see if there is any damage or even the correct oil for that matter.

Sorry for the long winded story. Just had to vent

As I was driving away i thought about how i could have blown that motor so easy! To bad i LOVE this truck and the motor.

P.S. I know some dealerships have people on here for personnal/business and i dont care. I know some are reputable dealers but this is my FIRST AND LAST TIME NOT DOING MY OWN OIL!!! To all those others out there that get their oil done at the dealer dont just automatically "think" they are good or know what they are doing just because its a dealership. That oil change for life for 800 dollars is not worth the gum on my shoe(glad i didnt buy it). Do it yourself.

Sorry to hear about your luck, I don't know if I would have handled it as well as it sounds like you did. I have worked for a dealer and know where the fallbacks are. There is no money to be made doing oil changes #1 for high paid flat rate techs and for #2 for the service department. It is a shame that so many dealers try to pay some "kid" or "dopehead" to change oil for 7 bucks an hour! This is the result! I was paid well and I did a lot of oil changes. #1 I didn't ( won't ) work on flat rate and #2 I did not get any kind of "upsell" commission or incentive. There is a point that the dealer needs to accept losing a little money for customer service and customer satisfaction index. If the service manager had any sense he could build all of these factors into the budget and raise the shop rate a little to make up for it. The end result would be happier customers and a more profitable shop because there would be no sceptisism (sp?) by customers! I literally had customers tell me to "Fix it!" "I know you will treat it as your own and not do anything I don't have to have!" That is where I have built my customers, and I learned it a long time ago. Trust me I've seen it done both ways. You can get as much money as you can out of a customer today or try to get a good portion of what he will spend the rest of his life by treating him right the first time you meet. O.K. I'll step down from my soap box now! LOL

Well it aint just Dodge Service Depts.

I was a Service Advisor for a GM dealership about 20 years ago and
some of the things I saw happen that the "so called" technicians did at
that dealership was an everyday embarrasment to us that had to meet the p.o.ed and disgruntled customers coming back. If it wasn't so serious
it would be funny.

Doing shoddy work on a $40,000+ piece of equipment aint funny. Especially for us folks that make our living with that equipment and it puts us on the side of the road for days, a thousand miles away from home, with all the added expenses that goes along with that. Lost work time, lodging, food and to have to pay somebody else to redo something that should have been done right back home.

When Cummins warranty runs out on my 07 3500 I absolutely will not ever take my vehicle to a Dodge Service Dept for anything,,, even an oil change.
I think they hire mechanics that aren't good enough to get a job anywhere else.

I'll find mom and pop type garages with good longtime reputations in their
field of expertise(s) in the local area. They are usually less expensive too.
Oil/filter changes, etc, I can handle myself.

And for the dealerships that have folks here, I think those folks know that we
know what we are talking about. I'm sure there are good dealerships with great reputations but imo they are few and far between. I don't know of one myself.

I too apologize for the longwinded rant but,,,,,,,,,,,,,

This is exactly how I used to operate. Talk to them and tell the truth. If they can wait a little while, tell them. If they need it quickly, tell them. Didn't mind doing oil changes at all. Would grab another rack and do one if needed. I normally ran 2 racks and a bay. Loved to see smiles on peoples faces just because I went the extra mile. Dealers just won't take care of you so a I changed professions after I finished my Engineering degree. Loved the work, just hated the pay. Nothing better than a customer coming in and asking for you by name.

^ You bet! I only work for the public after normal hours. I went to work for Verizon a few years ago as a fleet tech (hence the VZ in my username) and work at my previous job part time in the evenings. I have some high profile people as customers such as the local judge and several LEO's and a couple of lawyers. That makes a difference to the little guy when he sees me treat him the same as I treated them.........honestly! Oh,......and I'm a firm believer that it isn't WHAT you know but WHO you know!

That's awful, I was going to ask what dealership, there's a Dodge world out here in Golden, seemed "iffy" at least judging by the salesman.

I had the turbo replaced on mine and they didnt hook the oil drain back up so it dumped most of my oil out on the 4 mile drive to my house and they also "fixed" the leak in my transfer case now it leaks alot more than it did before. It used to leak a quart a month before they fixed it now it leaks 2 quarts a week. Needless to say I do all of my own work now.

I was thinking the same thing!!!!!!! If the dealer is this stupid, if and when the motor dies the dealer is going to tell dodge they need a new motor and you can bet they will never tell anyone they caused the problem in the first place.

CALL D/C right NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The dealer filled my new 6.7 up with premium unleaded and drove it 4 miles. At least they used the good stuff! When all was said and done, I refused the truck and they gave me a megacab slt for $38k which is what I paid for the 4 door base model. Goofed in my favor...the kid got his pink slip on the spot.

I purchased my new 3500 CTD new at a dealer in Lewiston, ID. The engine had a front seal oil leak almost from the beginning. I brought the truck back to the dealer 3 times for a fix. They kept it for most of the day each time and still the leak was present. I finally told them I'd live with it since I didn't want them messing with the truck any more (I had lost confidence). I figured I could get the leak fixed somewhere else.

To make a long story short, I wound up taking the truck to Baraboo Motors in Baraboo, WI. They had one diesel tech on duty, but this guy apparently knew his stuff. The leak is fixed because he did it right the first time. I loved the friendliness of the service department here and would highly recommend anyone in that vicinity have their Dodge vehicle serviced by them (to be fair, I do want to state that the dealership where I bought my truck does have a very friendly staff and they really wanted to be helpful).
