transfer case swap

I have a 2007.5 3500 and was told the transfer case was gone on it. Am thinking of swapping it out with a remanufactured one myself. Just wanted to see if anyone has any experience with this and if it is something that can be done by me in my shop or something a mechanics shop has to do.

You can do it yourself, but I would ask this- if you are competent enough to change a transfer case, you should be able to determine for yourself if yours is bad. What are you dealing with? Are you certain that you have a bad transfer case, and that it can't be repaired? Before you just go and change it, make sure that you know what is wrong. Many components have been replaced when they didn't need to be, just because someone said it was bad.

Ditto what Hodge said. Have you changed the fluid in it? The condition of the old fluid can tell you much about the internals. What are the symptoms?
