trans oil
trans oil
fixing to service the trans in the 08. what kind of trans oil do yall recommend to use. the truck has 77000 on it and its gonna be the first time servicing the trans. im kinda debating even touching it with that many miles but a transmission guy told me as long as it doesnt smell burnt it will be fine to service it with this many miles. yall give me some feedback...
You will need 7 quarts of ATF+4 oil with two filters for your transmission. I am using Amsoil ATF+4, which meets the Chrysler specs for the Auto Transmission. The 68RFE has two filters in it, one is a spin on and the other is a pan filter.
When changing the spin on filter make sure you remove the old seal completely. Than reinstall the new seal first before installing the spin on filter. The seal needs to be placed into a grove which is difficult if your hands are large.

I have been told by a man that knows these transmissions forwards and backwards to NEVER use aftermarket filters, always use the OEM Mopar. He has no connection to Mopar, but has seen many transmissions die prematurely directly due to aftermarket filter failure. Also be aware that these transmissions do not come from the factory with a pan gasket, but they are available. Personally I do not like using form-a-gasket.
