Texas or South Dakota

hello,

got a question for our south dakota and texas members regarding your 6.7s. does you states require you to get smog checks on your CTD? i live in socal and am considering changing my home of record to either of your states. no offense south dakota but i would spend my winters in socal.

anyway how about the smog checks?

thanks,
david

When I lived on the Tx side of the Border.... it was different from county to county. No smog test is more rural areas.
Try Oklahoma! They did away with all annual inspections. They leave it in the hands of local law emforecment.
Or are you trying to avoid State Income Tax?

I changed my residency from CA to SD about 4 years ago and have never looked back. There are no vehicle inspections, no state income tax and the sales tax is much lower than CA. I saved thousands on my new truck & fifth wheel by making the change.

actually i want it all, no inspections and next to nothing taxes. i have pretty much decided on south dakota. asked about texas as i understand it is a pretty reasonable state regarding taxes and cheap(er) diesel fuel. i do have family in dallas but not a good enough reason to claim residency.

ordered a 2011 CTD 1 ton dually built and would like to free up the 6.7 to breath better and feel i can do that in south dakota.

thanks and it looks like SD is the winner.

SoDak's cheap. I spent 85$ for tags on my truck and bike. That's all you need every year.

HecTik,
i assume one can renew the tags by mail each year? $85 sounds good, my 05 CTD runs me $460 this past year. un-freaggen believable!!!!

I believe you can do nearly everything by mail execpt renew your driver's license. The last I heard you had to renew the DL in-state.

That is correct. I have to return to SD next year to renew my D/L. From what I understand all you have to do is show a receipt from a SD address (can be an RV park, motel etc.) and that should suffice.
