Chevy's 4x4's are the same heigth (or very close to) as the 2 wheel drives. If you're really planning on using the 4x4 feature, the chevys have super low ground clearance. Chevy's have IFS front suspensions. That's either a plus or a minus, I don't know you. It's a minus to me. Real trucks have solid axles. If you want lots of comfort and a car-like ride, get the chevy. If you want a real heavy duty truck, don't.

I love the comfort and ride of the Chevrolets I have owned but the front end is a nightmare. All those parts up there and when one wears out look out because the death wobble that insues after that wil drive you crazy chasing it down.

I decided between a Dodge and Chevy and Ferd. Actually for a truck I liked the FERD the best. However, removing the cab turned my motor down and up to a Cummins. Now, Chevy won't deal with you and I got a 2008 Dodge CTD 2500 MegaCab $7000 less than a similarly equipped Chevy.

Not to mention that Blunderbuss of an ugly exhaust. Chevy just would not deal with me. $7000 buys lots of accessories. Dodge sticker was 50400, Chevy was 48,200 and it was still $7000 less.

Go figure.

Mike

I test drove both truck last night-again. Both were loaded to the hill, crew cab duallys. My results were:
Exterior looks: dodge
interior: chevy
Powertrain: This one is hard because I felt the dodge was alot stronger off the line. Now the chevy felt felt stronger at higher speeds if you punched it.. I think the dodges trans. felt just as good as the allison. The mileage thing is a problem for both. They both suck, compared to my 06'.
*Here's the kicker, Money for money I think that I prefer the dodge. Now in my mind Im thinking, is it worth spending all this money to achieve not much more? Sure it would be nice to have this new truck, but for 6k I can build a killer trans from hts. and probally achieve the same results that one of these truck could have. Now I know that there are more diffrences, but I could borrow 30k for a new truck or I could spend 7-8k and have a bad a$$ truck that blows smoke, makes alot of noise , pull just as much as one of the new ones could. This is getting really hard, but I think you guys helped me make up my mind. I think ill just build the truck. Thanks everyone, I think you guys just saved me alot of money and a headache. Now i guess its time to start buying perf. parts.

Hey no doubt about it if i had an 06 or an 07 5.9 and it was mostly payed for, i would just put a different tranny and an exhaust brake on it and be done. I wish they would have made the 5.9 with the 6speed auto behind and the exhaust brake, i would have bought that, no doubt about it, end of discussion. But i do not hesitate to say i am 200% happy with my decision considering that i was coming from a 93 F250 with a 7.3 non turbo 5 spd manual. This was quite the upgrade and since i had to have a Brand new truck, this is the best truck for me...

Glad you found the right answer for you. I would do the same in your shoes

coming from a 3rd gen dodge to an 08 duramax, I LOVE the duramax. Even with an aftermarket trans in the dodge, 2 different brands actually, it still drove me nuts. I know the 6.7's have the 68whateverrfe, but i like my allison ALOT...you can't talk me out of my allison until the 68rfe does some major proving of itself. Yes, a v8 duramax will make more power in the upper rpms compared to an inline 6.....pick your weapon there. I like the top end. GM has the regen function down better than ferd or dodge. When my truck is in regen, it idles slightly higher and you can barely smell something burning when sitting still. mpgs drop maybe 3 at the most and quickly come back up. I actually have MORE power in regen, which is weird. I was getting 14-19mpg in my duramax til winter fuel and cold weather hit texas.

i know this is a dodge site and I was hardcore cummins, but the chevy won my vote.....

I have to say if I got a DPF diesel the GMC would get the nood, looking on dmaxs forums the dmax isnt that bad even w/ all the emissions, and the interiors are awsome

Although the duramax has had fewer problems with their dpf, i prefer the dodge system better. The duramax regen will run even when the vehicle stops which may or may not be a problem. Because I am from a farm I wouldn't have a vehicle that does this (possible harvest time catastrophe).

You've probably made your decision final, but there are my 2 cents.

I sound like a broken record... but that is exactly why I bought my 06 5.9.
my hard earned buck goes further. Fantastic choice I don't think you will regret it at all.

Was helping my parents move over the weekend and had to reposition their LBZ a couple of times.

Why do you have to push the go pedal 1/2 way to the floor to git the durned thing to move? Oh yeah...I'm used to all that CTD Low End Torque!

It must be just the way the Chevy pedals are designed because I once moved my girlfriend's brothers 07 chevy gasser and I was used to my 04. I pulled out into traffic to put it in the other driveway and I had to put the thing down a good ways for it to start moving, I thought I was going to get rear-ended.

I came to Dodge from an 03 Chevy 2500HD and this is my 2nd CTD I had an 04.5 and now the 07.5 and Have loved both with much better service then the Chevy. The 07 and 08 GM's are nice but many are having limp mode problems check out dieselplace.com. All 3 are nice trucks with all having + and - so test dive all 3 and buy what you like best.

We have a 2000 or 2001 Chevy 2500 HD gasser at work. It's a piece of junk. Lots of little problems with it, the kind that drive you nuts. Early on it had a mold problem, causing the interior to stink. Chevys fix was to install a fan on the inside that comes on automatically every few minutes, even with the truck off. What's funny is when the fan comes on, the headlights blink! Just makes me shake my head.....
