Steering recall

Hmmm... I wonder if the recent recall of 280,000 Dodge Rams for steering issues may be in some way related to the "death wobble" issue?? Thoughts anyone?

Don't know, but I went to my Dodge owners site and apparently my truck isn't affected.

if your truck is affected, you will get a letter from the manufacture. the media is good at "releasing" a recall before notification from the manufacture. sit tight and let the manufacture get caught up. I see it all the time that the media says something about a recall, people start calling up and saying they have a recall then a month or so they get a letter. the manufacture releases things in VIN groups to help keep things going smooth.

Is this another recall?

I just read on e about the rears, but it seems to be on the 45 and 5500 series. I didn't read about anything on steering

There was a recall on 1500's too

Cbrahs, gotta question for you. I guess it was in april of this year, I took my truck in for ac repair. While they had the truck, they replaced the trans 'hot' line, did some kind of 'front end' inspection, and I think they r&r the steering drag link, and replaced an ac/temp sensor in the dryer (?). All of these had been prior recalls or TSBs, that hadn't been done. Should I be concerned?

firestorm. PM sent

for anyone who may not know.

A recall is considered "warranty (for a lack of better terms) and paid for by the manufacture. usually there is NO time or mileage limit (although mazda does with theirs) UNLESS the vehicle has a salvaged title. If it has a salvaged title, some mfg's do not have to cover a recall.

a TSB is a Technical Service Bulletin. they are not covered under warranty (unless the vehicle is still under base mfg warranty or has a KILLER extended warranty). they only aide the technician in finding and fixing an issue. so, lets say technician in PA finds a fix (or an engineer finds and issue and also a fix which happens too) to a problem child. that tech can get onto chryslers system and post what was the issue and what he did to fix it. then Chrysler will create a formal TSB. I have seen some crazy issues in the past and do a "search" on chrysler for a "rattle in dash" (for example) and come up with some weird repairs but actually fix the issue.

IF my truck is recalled for steering issue I don't need to reinstall all my emission stuff right? Blacktek is good for me.

if yours is recalled and you take it to the dealer, tell them NO flashes and ALL you want is the recall. nothing more nothing less. there is no reason for them to connect to the trucks computer for a steering recall. I would even be waiting for it at the dealer

I wrote to my dealer about the recall. He doesn't have the details on it yet. Said I know more than he does.

My reply was "What a surprise"

now you understand our frustration with the media. dealers are always screwed because of the media "releasing" a recall before the manufacture sends out the letters, gets the dealers the information on what is coming up and the parts department stocked to be able to handle the influx of recall customers. so for all intesive reasoning, its not your dealers fault for not knowing what is going on with a newly "media released" recall. remember how far out of proportion the media did in Toyota with the sticky gas pedals? dealers were bombed with calls, sudden show ups etc and had no parts, information etc on how to handle the "media released" recall

This recall that was just announced is "L16".

Previous recalls were H46 and H36.

DH and I goofed around the dealership today. I talked to the service guys a little bit and they said it'd be another couple of weeks before all the procedures, parts and all that gets down to dealer levels, then customers.

Dodge ram 2500-3500 recall - l16 #11v350000
recall for steering : Linkages : Tie rod assembly

Chrysler is recalling certain model year 2008-2011 dodge ram 2500/3500 4x4, manufactured from February 14, 2008, through march 28, 2011; model year 2008-2011 dodge ram 3500 cab chassis 4x2, manufactured from february 14, 2008, through march 28, 2011; and model year 2008 dodge ram 1500 mega cab 4x4, manufactured from February 14, 2008, through august 15, 2008, because the left tie rod ball stud may fracture. This condition tends to occur during low speed parking lot type maneuvers when the customer is making a tight turn.

Additionally, model year 2003-2008 dodge ram 2500/3500 vehicles may have received the affected tie rod assembly as a replacement part during normal service.

07 2500 left tie rod

Had mine inspected on 10/3/2001. Dealership said it was within limits. It didn't appear to me to be within limits. I asked them to replace it anyway and they refused.

Had dealership check engine problem on 1/8/13. They performed a free safety inspection. No problems observed.

Left tie rod end separated on 1/15/13 while backing out of a parking place. Chrysler covered the tow and rental car OK.

Dealership advised the replacement part had the same P/N as the failed one.

Why not install a improved tie rod end?
