Soot, Does it hurt the engine??

We all know the EGR system coats the intake and dirties the oil. Is it possible this soot is good for the engine or at least does not affect wear and performance.

The experts, engineers at Cummins and Dodge what do they say?

I would not mind feeding my truck a little dirt if it was good for the environment, improved fuel economy and did not hurt the engine.

It's definitely not good for the mileage. Unplugging the EGR gets most trucks around 3-4 extra mpg. I am very happy to say that I am in that group. 16-17 in town mpg sounds great doesn't it?
And that black oil. There is just no way that's good for anything.......

Does unplugging the EGR work on a '04.5 also? If yes, are there drawbacks to this? Do you just unplug the EGR plug and where is it?

Dodge didn't start with the EGR until the 6.7 engine in 07.5.

SEE!!! ALL YOU 5.9 GUYS WHO SAID STAY AWAY FROM THE SMOG MONSTER 6.7S ARE WISHING YOU HAD ONE NOW AREN'T YOU!!!!
I'm sitting at about 17.5 mpg right now and the only highway miles are sitting in traffic on the way home....

All bow to the 6.7l trucks.......

Oh! I see how it is ever since I rejected your application for the club!! It takes a very special kind of Goofball to join my club. We, I mean, I am very particular about who can join....

LOL

All I know is this, my 07 5.9 never got better than 14 city and 20 hwy. This truck now blows that away.....

It's now 9 city, and 13 highway? J/K

The only thing that kept me away from a 6.7 was the siamesed cylinders.

Everything lese could be ''dealt with''
