Seafoam & EGR Cleaning

Quick question, guys. Is it possible to clean the EGR valve while it is in place by removing the intake pipe coming from the cooler and squirting Seafoam into the valve? I realize the best way to do the job is to remove the EGR and disassemble it for cleaning but if it's possible to do a halfway decent job while it's in place, I'd like to know.

I'm currently staying in a small town where the local diesel mechanic told me he won't touch another Dodge EGR valve since he screwed one up on a customer recently (he used carb cleaner for the job. Perhaps that caused the problem). I'm somewhat afraid to disassemble it myself at this time since there's no one to help if I screw up. I'll do a more thorough job when I get to a different location. Thanks for your input....

(BTW, the CEL is on right now and a scan indicates three different codes relating to the EGR. The light has not gone out for a full day. Usually it goes out after about 4 starts)

I would not recommend using Seafoam to perform this job. You may not make it to your next destination by doing so. You mention that the light usually goes out after four starts. How long has the CEL been warning you of the EGR issue?

Awesome to have that cleaning procedure for us here. Wonder if there is a fluid that can be used other than the "special mopar" stuff though. Maybe some diluted simple green?

you can use simple green for the EGR valve cleaning. As for the turbo, the issue would be having a starscan or wi-tech to actuate the slide in the turbo while the chemical is being injested into the turbo. I have a few cans of the cleaner for the turbo but don't have the computer to work the slide. oh well, the chemical works killer on EGR stuff but mine is going to be falling off here soon

I was just concerned with messing something up since I'm currently in a little town where the local tech doesn't want to get involved. I'd like to clean it even if it's not too thorough without disassembling it, if possible.

Dr. Dizzle, the CEL has been on for almost three days now. I'm sure the EGR is "frozen" in place, hopefully in the closed position. The truck is running very well, so this leads me to believe the valve is stuck closed. Do you concur??
