Regens...how Often ????
My 2008 6.7L seems to go into regeneration too often. Yesterday I was on
a 50 mile hiway run and the regen started and took approx 20 minutes to
complete...EGT ran 1200 to 1350 on fairly level ground 60-70 MPH. Upon
completion is dropped back to the normal 800-1,000 range. Stayed overnight
and after driving only 20 miles back, regen started again. This was also
accompanied with the 1.5 MPG drop in fuel economy. This doesn't seem
normal to me.....Other than that, the truck is awesome. All flashes were
up-to-date when I took delivery on Oct. 3rd.....fuel milage is running 13-14
in town and 16.5 to 18 on road (hand calculated).....What happens when
you do not allow the REGEN to go thru the complete cycle ????

if it doesnt complete the cycle, then it will just start back up again the very next time you are driving acceptable for it to begin again. Although it may suck for us as far as MPG's are concerned, i think that by it regening a lot more frequently it will favor the ppl that do a lot more city driving and idling around.
With the mods on mine and the way I drive it I see at least 1 regen a day, most people are seeing about 1 regen per tank of fuel. As long as its going into regen you know nothing is wrong I would be more worried if it did it less often.
I have almost 20,000 miles now and have never noticed the truck doing a regen! I understand that it certainly has but how can we know when it does on a completely stock truck? Without EGT temp gauges is it possible to know?
I feel like I can tell with mine when the power dropps and the fuel economy goes way down, seems like it goes into regen every time I pull into a truck stop and get back on the interstate, pulling my 5er or not.
My POS is the same way It seems if You stop for just a little time it regens. Noticable power loss and milage loss. I think the only way these trucks will work correct is to follow them with a tanker. Yes I did say POS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have only seen the msg on the overhead once that it was at 80%. I have logged 21K miles since Sept 3. Like others, I have felt a loss in power and a loss in mileage [like it can get even worse. LOL]
So how does an engine that uses more fuel get to be more compliant to emissions? I always figured if your burning more fuel, your dumping more crap into the atmosphere.

Burning all the stuff in the pipe...hmmm...where does all that stuff go?

its burns it up and its released as something isnt the normal emission. It traps all the soot.. and then gets hot enough to burn it off.. the black smoke/soot is the result of an unclean/complete burn in the cylinder.. which is normal in a diesel truck.. When its burned off in the DPF/nOX filter its pretty much just completely burning it up as tho you had a perfect combustion cycle. And there is more water vapor in the exhaust than before. And that extra fuel its burning is to bump up the EGT's to do a regen (burn off and clean out the DPF)
I have 7000 miles on mine and have not gone into regen yet that I know of. I have not thrown any codes either. Does it show up on the display? Does the truck drive differently or make a different noise? Maybe I am missing it. Any help?
I'm quite sure I have observed regen although I haven't added gauges yet. When monitoring the overhead MPG display on a long stretch of straight road, I've reset it and let it stabilize and it will settle in at something like 18 or 19 mpg, if it is in regen, that number will be much lower. I'm alerted that regen is started when seeing the MPG display start to drop off on a long straight stretch with no reason for it (no headwind, hills, or change in driving habits). When it does this I'll hit reset again to get a better snapshot of the MPG display and it will usually indicate some ridiculously low number like 11 or 12 mpg. This doesn't seem to last very long since I had the AU flash done.
For actual mileage I always calculate it and never depend on the overhead display to be accurate.
