Questions about manufacturer buyback (long question)

Hey guys I have a question about a truck I am looking at buying but have a lot of concerns. It is an 08 and has about 15,000 miles on it. From the carfax report the dealer sent me, it looks like it has been in for work several times. Looks like the oxygen sensor replaced at 1,500 miles. The EGR valve, water pump and oxygen sensor replaced at 7,900 miles. At 10,658, the transfer case overhauled/replaced, and finally at around 15,000 the vehicle was reacquired by manufacturer. The reasons given were that the vehicle does not idle correctly, transmission does not shift correctly (it is a 6 speed manual) and the check engine light is on.

The thing that is strange is the buyback is dated 2/3/10 and the vehicle shows offered for sale on 2/4/10. It was then auctioned on 3/29/10 and eventually got to the dealer where it is now.

Do you guys think the problems were addressed at some point after the buy back, or do you think they just cleared any codes and are trying to do a quick turnaround?

Let me know what you guys think about this. Thanks!

I lemoned my 6.0 Ford back in 04. It is a Federal Law that a dealer can not sell a vehicle that has been deemed a lemon. Unless, the vehicle title has been marked salvage.

Well here, an update. I made a couple of calls and I am in the process of trying to get all the service records for the truck so I can see exactly what all has been done. I called the dealer who had it right after the buy back and they told me that the truck was pushed a J35 flash which corrects many of the problems early 6.7 engines had. Do you guys concur?

I don't know what to make of all the other odds and ends that have been done like the transfer case module (did I mention they replaced the radio?)

Well, I had Ford buy back my 2003 F350 Dually with the 6.0L engine. Because the manufacture bought the truck back with out arbitration or lemon law. It's was just another used truck. I know that does not seam right, but that's the way it works. I had 18 repair orders with 1 to 6 items on each repair order. I had a oil leak on the engine three times. As a matter of fact, the truck was still leaking oil when I handed the keys to the dealer.

In all the time, I got to know the service staff and diesel techs very well. I talked to the service manager one day when I was having trouble with the replacement truck, and he told me the my old truck sat on the dealers lot for 3 months, then ford had a truck come get it. Ford took it straight to the auction lot and sold the truck. Where it ended up, I have no idea. But, someone is driving it now.

If it was a buy back, run and run fast. Just my suggestion. Anthony

I wouldn't buy it just for the fact that it doesn't have the far more superior 6 speed AUTO trans.

Well, I love my truck now (06 QC with 5.9) but the wife's not too happy about riding in the smaller back seat with the little one, so I am looking for a used Mega Cab. I think it may be one with a 6.7, but I haven't committed to one just yet. I'm a new guy here but I have visited the site for a while and love it.

I bought a lemon truck and it had the 53 cracked block replaced, somehow they messed up the trans and transfer while installing the engine. Noew it has a new transfer and transmission and updated clutch. Runs like new!!!

I would Have bought it if you could have got it for cheap, I would assume it would not have much warranty anyway, I would have done the emissons deletes, as for the tranny that is an odd one, what can really go wrong with a manual that would cause it to not shift properly but still be drivable enough to sell at full value, my guess would be syncros. All that said where is the truck located and how much are they asking.
