Does anyone here know the real story on oil change intervals? Since my truck was new, my oil change required has chimed every 2500 miles on the dot. I called the service department today to ask about it. He told me the oil needs to be changed every 7500 miles. He told me it was just a reminder at 2500 miles and not to worry about it. I asked him why then for the next 5000 miles do I have to hear the Oil Change Required chime? He again told me it was just a reminder! (I know I can reset it without changing the oil, but I think his response was BS)

 

The oil change message is semi-intelligent in that it is based on certain parameters from your particular driving habits such as idle time, key cycles, mileage, regenerations, etc. The message is NOT just a reminder. Change the oil within a reasonable amount of time after receiving the message and be sure to reset the computer afterwards. I think you'll find that the change intervals will increase as the engine gets broken in.

 

I've had the oil change required come on 500 miles after I changed the oil. I asked the service dept about it and they told me to pay no attention and just clear it. I change my oil every 10k miles.
