oil

I have a 2008 5500 and still am not clear on which oil to use, (along with the dealer--bunch of idiots) they eventially told me it has to mobil 1 synthetic with an mb 229.51 rating--at $18 a litre (approx $65 a gallon).

Im finally learning as long as its api cj-4 for CES 20081 you're fine. I think that whole mb 229.51 is a mercedez/frieghtliner thing and the dealership uses that for the sprinter.

now the next problem is finding the oil itself walmart carries rotella-t 15w40 but no one here (Toronto Canada) seems to carry rotella-t synthetic or valvoline Premium Blue synthetic

My question is am I on the right path and does anyone know where to buy this stuff (in bulk if possible-I put 1500-2000 miles a week)

Any help is helpful

I got Valvoline Premium Blue 15W/40 CJ-4 at Advance Auto. It is also available at Auto Zone. Not sure if those stores are in Canada.

don't think we have those here, I think I'll try costco, a friend recommended them today

do think synthetic is worth all the trouble because I can now get the rotella 15w40 for about $9 a gallon definatly the most cost effective.

I use Chevron Delo 400 - have since day one and have 130KM's. I buy it in the States for $9.00 a US Gallon (3.8 litres). You can get it at Autopak and Napa in Ontario as well as any truck stop. Will run you about $16.00 for 3.8 litres.

CLICK HERE That is the oil I run in my 4500 & 5500 with fleetguard filters, you can buy it at NAPA for $4.80/L. I don't use synthetic because I just change my oil too often(8,000KM),oil to me is cheap insurance plus the 6.7L has such nasty oil

Premium Blue Valvoline is available at every Flying J that I've been to. I use Rotella T Triple Protection-(non synth) CJ-4. I change every 5000-7000 KM depending on the service . without a bypass setup , I wouldn't bother trying to get extended drain life out of an expensive Synthetic Oil.

Have you tried Cummins? Might be a little cheaper.

Do you run the regular 15W40 in winter as well?
