Question New manual 6-speed

I've always prefered manual transmissions in my tow vehicle, it just made sense to me. Never had a problem with any of them in the past towing 5er's in the desert southwest. My new g56 however was taken to the dealer last week with what I thought was a throwout bearing noise. The dealership is telling me it is actually the idler arm making the noise when I shift, they say there is a known problem with spacers that need to be replaced. Only noise is when I shift. Anyone else heard of this problem?

Thanks

Hunh, mine has been flawless so far. Like most of them felt pretty darn stiff when new, then by comparison after driving the '99 felt REALLY loose! hahaha

I haven't noticed any odd noises though.

Touch wood.

Mine was also very stiff when new, now with 5800 miles it is pretty smooth. I had to get away from the NV5600, I rebuilt it twice in7 months. Iliked it better than the five speed but it was 2 expenseive to repair. I got it out of th shop on a Friday and traded it on my new one on saturday!!!

So far with almost 60,000 miles on my G56 bought new in March, towing
campers of all sizes, I haven't had a bit of trouble that I know
of.

My only real complaint about the G56 is the low gearing for highway work.
Seventy MPH @ 2200 RPM is a fuel killer for me and the high RPMs
extra wear and tear on the motor is a bummer. At a modest 2000rpm I
run 63mph.

I have about 3,000 miles on mine with about a 1000 of that towing. No strange noises from mine yet. I second the complaint about the gearing.

better keep an eye on it mine was doing that then it started lockinging up in reverse and was an sob to get it out. They changed the fluid at 12k didnt help still had funny sound and still had reverse issue. Long story short the replaced it at 51k, had bad fluid from factory or so they thought. and yes the tranny was only 6mo old. the truck was bought in oct of 06

A little over 10K here, with about 2K towing. Ditto on the gearing bites. No shifting issues. My stick vibrates (buzzes) on deceleration, though. Anyone else have that? Mine started doing it at around 5K.

G-56

I'm loving mine aside from the final gear ratio. Looks like 35's will fix that though. I'm changing out the factory fluid for Amsoil Universal ATF this weekend in the tranny and transfer case. Everyone sems to love Amsoil in 'em.

I have 07 8500km with the same noise, heavier I tow louder it gets. Only when declutching. Dealer said they have some through out bearing problems. My 04.5 no noise stock clutch lasted 70,000km. Put a southbend in and now have trouble shifting from 1st to reverse feels like its dragging. Outwest like to know what they find with yours.

foreme2, It still sounds like the throwout bearing to me too but I'm taking it in on Monday. I'll let you know what happens.

Dealership called today and told me the have the tranny apart and found serious pitting on the gears throughout. They are thinking an assembly problem because the fluid level was fine. Also the throwout bearing is making noise. Because of the cost of rebuilding they believe a new tranny will be sent to replace it. While this is no small issue it is the only one I have had with this otherwise great truck...

New transmission is in and seems to have fixed all the problems. The dealership told me DC wanted the tranny back so they could look into what happened with it. The Dealership I used was in the Las Vegas area and I think did a great job diagnosing and repairing the truck. He told me they don't see many problems with the g56. I asked about the new 68re and he said his service dept has not seen to many problems with it either but not to many with alot of miles on them yet.

When mine is cold and I reverse it wants to stick in reverse and you have to force it out anyone else having this problem only happens half of the time too.
